Fine Art Applicants and Universities 2014!!

Three years is a bit long for me, but it being fully funded is a real bonus so I might still consider it. I'd like to specialise at MA level though and I loved the look of RCA's animation course. I'll see where my work is in three years time.
The only negative I've ever heard about Camberwell is that some people think it's quite small. These are still people who are really enjoying their time there though. It seems to deliver what people expect which is good.

I have a friend who's studying the joint honours at Goldsmiths and she said it is a very good art school, the only reason why its so looked upon and competitive is the fact they consider just about anything art as long as its conceptual and ambiguous as it mentioned in the documentary. And I think that's what must draw people in, and that its had how many past alumni that have been Turner prize winners If I end up hearing off them I'll be a bit stuck on where to go as Wimbledon looks nice as does Westminster but, I've always been drawn to Goldsmiths for some reason haha

Yeah I really like that idea too, and I loved it when I looked around . Ive just heard a number of negative things about the quality of work/students/tutors going down, and it's starting to put me off. Guess il just wait and see where I get in and go to look around again! Hopefully il see able to decide. Still haven't heard from Chelsea after my interview either..

Yeah I've heard that to but we'll just have to see what happens. I did hear from a student at Westminster that he didn't particularly like Kingston. He mentioned that with most universities you'll have a tutorial with your tutor once every few weeks or even once a week. At Kingston he knew people who hadn't spoken to their tutors in over a month.

You should be hearing off Chelsea any time now they must have a hell of a lot of people to go through haha

That's strange about Kingston, as the girl who showed me around said when she first arrived she was finding it hard to adjust and her tutor just sat and talked with her every lunch time. She also said another tutor was like her mum. She chose Kingston over Goldsmiths because of this, as in her Goldsmiths interview they said you'd only see your tutor about once a month for a one to one. I actually thought the tutors seemed a bit too involved at Kingston, it was one of the things that put me off. haha

Does anyone know the applicant to offer ratio for Chelsea? I don't think they said on the open day.

on my open day they said around 800 apply, 200 get interviews and 80 places for homegrown students

That's great. I'm glad it went well. Thanks for the information for those of us who have ours later this week. It sounds like we've been preparing for interviews in the same way, after Kingston I realised I definitely needed to be more concise in my answers. Congratulations on the Wimbledon offer too! Hopefully you'll hear from Goldsmiths soon.

I think my interview at Brighton today went really well. It was very similar to how you described Slade and I definitely feel like I got in all the important things I wanted to say. They seemed really positive so I'm hopeful it will be good news. It might have bumped up to my second choice now.

Just to let everyone who's still waiting on goldsmiths know, I just rang them enquiring, they said they're still working on applications but they should be in touch by the end of this week!

Laure Prouvost from last year studied at Goldsmiths I think but don't hold me to that haha. I know she studied at CSM :'). Up to that point I don't think anyone from Goldsmiths had won the Turner prize until 2007 with Mark Wallinger but he went to Chelsea as well. So Goldmsiths could possibly make a few improvements

I have been offered conditionals for both Southampton Solent (for illustration) and Winchester School of Art for fine art. I don't know which to go to D;. Winchester is obviously better but Solent is more fun!...and less essays (even though i don't mind those too much). Please help! If anyone goes to either, pleaseeeee what are they like!? And does anyone know what winchester is like inside? I didn't get chance to go round at my interview due to trains etc etc boring. BUT PLEASE HELP

Has anyone had their slade interview yet? How did you find it? Hope they went ok!

Hey, your interview was today right? How did it go?

Yes it was today. I think it went really well. They seemed very enthusiastic and I got to say all the tings I wanted to say. The tutor who asked 'Why Slade' said she thought my reasons were very well thought out and one of the others remembered my film from the portfolio inspection, so I think those are both good signs. However, at the end they were saying they only interviewed 160 students and that I'd done really well to get this far, so I thought maybe they were trying to soften the blow of a rejection. But the student I talked to after said the tutor said that to everyone, and he did say a similar thing on the open day too.
I liked how relaxed and encouraging the tutors were, it helped put me at ease
There's really no way of calling it. I saw some of the other applicants work and thought it was so much better than mine, I still can't really believe they gave me an interview. haha And we won't even start to hear back until the middle of next week. It's going to be a painful wait.

I had mine and the panel were really nice although they didn't seem enthusiastic about my work like they were of yours! Also when I answered the questions they didnt say anything about my answers! ahhh its so amazing I really want to go there but I dont think I have got in :/ did they say we would start hearing from next week? good luck!

I was talking to the students afterwards and they all said they didn't think there interviews went very well and were shocked when they were offered places, so you really can't tell what they think. We might have just had different interviewers. They said they finished interviews the middle of next week (so I assume Wednesday) and they won't make any decisions before then. A student said it would probably take 1 - 2 weeks to hear back, but could be 3 if they have to make some really difficult decisions at the end between equally good candidates. Good luck to you too!
