I am ill can anyone help? What is happening to me!

It's been 3 weeks now since I have been feeling ill. I constantly feel that I am going to be sick every morning and I don't feel that hungry at all. Even when I am hungry I don't feel like eating anything cause I also feel sick. I have been sick a few times and other times its like fluid sickness.

My symptoms pretty much all day everyday are feeling sick/ being sick, headaches really bad a times, stomach ache tummy hurts and my throat hurts really badly and it's like there is a lump everyone I swallow.

I have been to the doctors three times this week. Had a blood test on Monday. This was to check my iron levels and glucose level and a full blood count. On Tuesday I went for an appointment as I had previously had an emergency appointment last Tuesday and I was told that if I wasn't feeling better to come back. Last tuesday I had the same symptoms as mentioned above butsome weren't as intense. The doctor said it is stomach acid and gave me some medicine told me to watch what i am eating and stay clear of certain foods spicy foods and fizzy drinks. i hardly eat or drink these in anyway. This tuesday the doctor said it could be something to do with protein or gluten in my body so arranged more blood tests. She felt my throat and said that my glands were up and mentioned glandular fever. She therefore arranged for more blood tests, a urine and stool sample also. On Wednesday I had the other blood tests still waiting the results. Had a urine test and have to have a stool test also still awaiting this one.

The last three weeks have been so hard haven't been going into sixth form as I feel so weak and ill and constantly feel sick. I don't know what to do now or why is wrong with me?

I feel so unmotivated I have loads of work to do and should be doing it now but I can't focus and I don't feel well. I don't know if this may also be stress or depression but I feel really ill and weak.

Can anyone offer any advice and help?

Sadly I can't help or advise as it sounds you have Doctors looking into this properly and I'm sure they will get to the bottom of it.

However I can offer support and tell you that this will get better. It's totally understandable that you are finding study tough at this point but a few weeks can be recovered so dont panic

Your post suggests that you are actually feeling stress and or depression from you studies is that the case? What is it that's bothering you?

Perhaps sharing that will help at least a little ?

Take care
probably an acid issue but stress can make that worse. This will sound strange but bear with me - raise the head of your bed by putting thick books or blocks of wood underneath. Ideally this would be about 6 inches but it takes a while to get used to it and 4 will help quite a bit. This means that gravity is helping to keep the acid in your stomach at night.

You must avoid ALL fizzy drinks, especially in the evening, and no alcohol. Make sure you stay upright after eating and have small frequent meals. Dont eat late at night.

To help with the stress of exams get a magnesium oil spray or buy epsom salts, put 500gms in a warm bath, soak for 15 minutes and pat (not rub) dry. You will absorb the magnesium through your skin.

You may also have a virus as your glands are swollen but acid can cause this too and once you are able to eat normally you'll probably shake that off.

What medication are you on? This should fix the problem in a week with gradual improvement before then,

What subjects are you studying.

Hey I had what you describe and had to see a stomach specialist about acid, they diagnosed me with acid reflux which is where the acid comes back up your throat. I constantly felt sick and wasn't eating. I also have low iron issues which isn't very nice. I was put on acid tablets called lansaprazole and gaviscon to help. It has completely calmed down now I believe when it was really bad it was because of stress.I also had to have a stool sample to check for a bacteria in the stomach. It will get better, its not the nicest of things. Is there any student support at sixth form you can speak to?x

I am not sure I feel pressure and stress but I started feeling ill before the pressure took its toll. I believe I am stressed in somewhat ways, I just feel like everything has got worse because I haven't been feeling well for the last month. I am not sure if this was particularly due to being ill or stress that has caused my illness to become worse. I feel lost most of the time and extremely tired as well, can't really concentrate but I have mostly put that down to feeling sick and having headache's during the day.
I don't know if I am overly stressed or even depressed.

Thanks for replying I was told by the doctor that it was stomach acid this was three weeks ago and he said if it is not better in a week to come back back so I did. I have had blood tests and they have come back clear although one did have to be repeated. I just think its something more than stomach acid and it could be due to stress, but I have been feeling like I am going to be sick, loss of appetite, headaches, stomachaches, throat has really been hurting towards the back and my neck really bad. On top of this I feel really tired, haven't really been eating much can't really concentrate on anything. So I probably am stressed as well. Don't really drink fizzy drinks at all.

I have had my iron levels tested and they are fine. I was given gaviscon on my first appointment when the doctor said it is stomach acid and he told me to come back in a week if it is the same. I asked another doctor a week after about lansaprazole as I had read about it on netdoctor and she said that it may interfere with the results of my blood test and just to continue with the gaviscon. I have also had to give a stool sample. Are you currently studying at sixthform?

Thats strange they never affected my blood results, lansaprazole helped me massively. Yep I'm studying at sixth form right now
Your doctor mentioned something about gluten. It might me gluten intolerance (celiac disease), because some of the symptoms seem to be like it.

It is my subjective presumption, so you should wait for doctors' inference.

Yeah I found it weird but she said that it might effect them. How long were you feeling like this for? And we you still going to sixth form? Are you doing you AS or A2 levels?

Not sure if she actually recommended that I needed to have a blood test for that. But I have been told my blood tests have come back clear so I don't know what else it could be really.

Had it on and off for years, tablets and gaviscon definitely help though. I had to go for ultrasounds and both an endoscopy and colonoscopy, as my blood tests were clear except my iron which is unrelated. I found staying away from fizzy drinks most effective as I used to drink alot of them. I suspect you do have acid reflux though and whilst annoying it can be controlled. I'm coming to the end of my AS year right now and starting A2 in June

Your doctor has presecribed gaviscon - omeprazole or lansaprazole would be more effective. The self-help measures I have suggested are what would improve your health in a week, on top of the less than adequate medication. Magnesium helps with stress and sleep and raising the head of the bed and not eating late at night helps the reflux at night when it is likely to be worse. They wont affect any blood tests your doctor wants to do.

When are you taking the gaviscon? Timing of medication can be important and if reflux medication is not taken more than once a day it may be more effective if taken after the evening meal.

Yes you should have a coeliac blood test and the stool test probably was to test for lactose intolerance - but it's still likely that you have simple reflux caused by anxiety about your exams.

I had a blood test to check for coeliac and they also had to rule out irritable bowel syndrome. My stool test was to check for a bacteria called H. Pylori
I would just say make sure you get good sleep as if you constantly have to get up early it could make you ill. Also I would say try to force yourself to eat evn if you don't want to. I had exactly the same thing that you had so I just did what I'm saying right now. I also was told to just relax and don't apply too much pressure to my self because stress also is bad for you. Finally for your throat, check which a torch for the colour and get someone to examine your throat as when I was ill it turned out that my throat was unusually red and I had tonsillitis. Hope this helps.
