Ernst and Young Partner interview success rate?

I just got the news that I passed the EY assessment center and have been invited for the final partner interview. Could anyone tell me about the general success rate for the partner interview and whether it is more of a formality or do many fail this stage? Thank you for your help :smile:

The success rate for partner interviews is quite high - after all, the partners are busy and they wouldn't spend their time interviewing you if they didn't already like you!

You should be prepared for a more informal 'discussion' time interview, and be prepared to talk about your career motivations, why you chose EY, and why you chose the service line that you did.

I work for EY, so if you have any questions, I'm happy to answer them.

By the way, the firm is no longer called Ernst & Young, we have changed our name to just "EY" from 1 July 2013

I am a bit scared about the ACA exams and there is a general perception that they are the some of the hardest exams out there. I just wanted to ask as to how EY goes about the exams with respect juggling between college and work. I do have exemptions from all the knowledge modules so would I directly go to the next stage or would I have to give some mocks before I am exempted from them by EY. Lastly, how many hours on an average does a first year have to study apart from the time he/she spends at college? Thank you in advance for answering my questions :smile:

Firstly congratulations for passing all the stages and getting an offer - well done!

I am currently mid-way through my exams (I am doing ICAS to be a CA rather than ICAEW to be an ACA but they are very similar). I would say that the exams are quite tough but definitely not as hard as people make out. Don't be put off by people 'scaremongering' - now that I have sat and passed some exams I have realised that other people like to try and put you off before them by saying how hard they are, when really they aren't so bad. You get loads of support from your tutors, your fellow students and the firm - everyone is helping you to pass. They are manageable, don't worry about it.

In my first year (and I imagine it will be the same for you unless things have changed), I got large blocks of time off work (3 months at a time), where I studied and then sat the exams. So there was absolutely no overlap between studying and working - I never had to work in the day and then study in the evenings.

Speaking to someone who did a lot in the EY recruitment for grad scheme and internship, by the time you've got to the partner interview your chances are ~50%.

When you apply initially, they weed out most of the people on the initial application and the tests.
Then less than 20% of people get invited to the first interview.

Once you've reached the partner interview (especially if you had a separate AC and partner interview) then you've got a very high chance as you've jumped through all the hoops so far!

It's impossible for the partner to like you before the interview, they won't have met you.

However the pass rate is high as it's likely you've already displayed all the required competencies to reach this stage.

I would have thought it would depend massively on how many places there are on the scheme you are applying for and how many other candidates there are for it.

If you've applied for assurance early in the cycle, then you'd have to perform rather badly in a partner interview to not get an offer.

Hi there.

I have my final partner interview for Financial Services Advisory - Technology (London). I am trying to figure out exactly where this fits in and what I could choose to specialise in (I believe that is a commonly asked question).

As I understand it the Advisory sector is split in "performance improvement" and "risk." Technology consulting falls under performance improvement and is split into enterprise intelligence and IT advisory. Is the choice of specialisation between enterprise intelligence and IT advisory, or are there further specialisations within these?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi EveryoneI had an interview today at the office with the associate partner. The first part had 4 parts which included :-Write about a product on you 1 page in 5 mins.-Edit an email (5mins)-Summarize the case (10 mins)-Altitude test (15 mins) And also included a behavioral Interview. I think the behavioral section and aptitude test went pretty well and really enjoyed conversation with the partner. However, I feel like I didn’t do so well in the first three sections cause of the pressure of time. Do you think I’ve lost my chances? Farid
