I have rhionitus and didnt use my nose for years.
had an op but grew back. The feeling of that first few secs was amazing.
My nose is bowed. Ive spoken to GP recently about it, as well as other things. He doesnt even want to know.
They act like nothing is wrong with me. Try sticking a plunger on your face and see how easy you can breath. Barely been able to get through uni with it.

I can imagine what you might be going through now! Stay away from negative people as that's a huge favor you can do to yourself. Your nose may not be that bad - its just your mentality and feeling that you are inferior. If you are very particular about getting a nose job done go for it but be aware of the risks associated with it. I recently happened to read in a plastic surgery information blog about a woman who performed plastic surgery since 7 years without a license. Be very careful about who you are going to get it done.

Hi. I broke my nose year ago and had it re set. Few years later mi nose looked bent and I wasn't happy with it. I went to the docs and they referred me to the hospital. I told them I wasn't happy with the shape of my nose and they did free surgery on it. Few years later again I kept looking at my nose and felt insecure an still didn't like it. Again I went to the doctors, told them I didn't like my nose and it's getting me down, again I had free surgery on the NHs . After this I've had it done a 3rd time . Because I've never been happy with it. Like you say this isny vanity, I think about it every day, hate pics , always think about it and this has made me have really bad anxiety getting on buses , going for job interviews and so on. Today my nose is better than it's ever been but still has a little kind if bump where caltridge has stuck out a bit. I've had 3 operations and an still not happy. I would go and find out the options you have but remember a nose isn't easily fixed and could take 3 or 4 operations for it to be how you want. There's also the risk of it becoming worse, in actually going to the doctors today and am going to ask about my nose again as I want another operation to rectify this bump. Let me know how you get in. I know how bad it is, and I hope you find a solution. Mike
Hey sorry to interrupt but I was just googling what to do about broken noses and found this thread and I'd love some advice for myself please if possible! I slipped on a wet bathroom floor and broke my nose on Thursday and I'm not sure what to do now :/ I have an appointment to go back to the hospital on wednesday but I'm not sure what they can offer me as you've all said they don't give out rhinoplasty's very often. My septum is broken as well as my bridge, oh and a little skin but that'll heal. My breathing isn't as good as it was and I found it difficult to sleep but I'm managing now. It looks pretty horrific and I'd really like it to go back to the way it was! I have savings but I'm an 18 year old student so I don't think I have enough to cover it all privately :/ any responses would be lovely  and as to the girl who started this thread - you're probably a lot more beautiful than you think and therapy is your best bet to start as you might have BDD (body dysformia disorder) my friend had it about her mouth and once she got her lips and teeth 'fixed' it spread to the rest of her body!

People who have cosmetic surgery on the NHS disgust me. There are hundreds of actually ill people who have to wait years for vital operations yet you want them to fix your nose which has no health benefits whatsoever. You need counselling, not a new nose. Stop blaming all your problems on it and get real.

I'm having this operation on the NHS. However, it's not for depression or anything I genuinely struggle to breathe through it. Does this still disgust you?

If your septum was damaged and it's affecting your breathing then you might be able to get septoplasty free on the NHS. The cosmetic stuff is down to the judgement of the ENT doctor, go to your GP and ask to be referred to one.

I had septoplasty on the NHS. My septum curved back into it's pre-op position though barely a couple of weeks after the surgery, which blocks a lot of my breathing through my left nostril. Such a pain. I haven't bothered going back since because I started Uni, but I'm considering it.

Erm. No. Because that's a medical problem.

Yes it does, stop lying, you're doing it for beauty purposes.

Guys, I know this guy, the only reason why he wants a nose job is not because he needs one, but rather because his father keeps on teasing him about a huge nose.

Instead of a nose job, he requires a psychiatrist to show him that it's alright to have a big nose.
I know how you feel as I'm very insecure about my nose as well. I used to ponder this very thing and once tried to break my own nose to get this procedure (I failed), I used to cry constantly and kids used to reaffirm my insecurities by bullying me about my nose (bc they knew it got to me). I even self-harmed over the issue. HOWEVER, I realised that my insecurities were more deep-rooted than my nose and I realised that I was being childish and immoral trying to get the procedure on the NHS. Also, I realised I had some serious self-esteem issues that would not be fixed by a nose job, I had an eating disorder and had picked my weight and nose as a target for my insecurity. With time, I've grown to accept my nose a little more, however, I do plan one day to fund my own Rhinoplasty.

By all means, use the NHS to help you get through your insecurities but do not use it for a cosmetic procedure which really should only be for people who have a disability or who have suffered from disfigurement.
Oh for **** sake, man up! It's a nose. I have a massive nose but you don't see me wanting a completely unnecessary operation on the NHS. Jesus, it's a ****ing nose. Living with the nose you have is not going to kill you.

If you want the operation, pay for it yourself.
Truthfully, most people are right. What you need is counselling? What will the NHS give you? Unlikely to be counselling. They haven't got the money. You're probably gonna have to pay for your own therapy or your own operation...

If that girl can get a boob job you can get rhinoplasty. Good luck!
I love how everyone thinks that a bit of CBT will magically fix the OPs concern.

Hello,

I'm 19 and my nose is very big and I have a bump. I'm happy with the rest of me, I like my body, hair, teeth, everything else. However, my nose is making me depressed. I refuse to go out, I refuse to go on dates, I refuse to have pictures taken. It makes me feel worse than everyone else. And it's not just one of those things that we don't like about ourselves but have to accept it - I'm becoming very obsessed with it.

For example, whenever someone asks me for a lift, I make up excuses. And it's not because I don't want to do them a favour, but I CAN'T STAND someone sitting next to me in a car and looking at my profile.

Also, when I got with my (now ex) boyfriend, I REFUSED to be introduced to his friends and family for months because I thought they wouldnt accept me... because of my nose. I realise how stupid this sounds, and obviously I personally would not dislike someone because of their looks, but it's just constantly in my head, and even though I keep telling myself I should accept it, i just cant. IMPOSSIBLE.

Whenever I mention it to my friends they seem to brush it off and not take it seriously. I spend almost every night crying myself to sleep about it. Not accepting yourself is probably one of the worst things - worse than others not accepting you. I've decided I want a nose job, and my family agreed I should have it done because they see how unhappy it makes me. However, I'm a uni student and I cannot afford it. Apparently you can get it on the NHS, but does anyone know if I have any chances of actually qualifying for it? Where do I even start?

PS. I'm not a spoilt little girl, this is honestly ruining my life by making me so self conscious. I hate living like this. So if you want to criticize me because I want to get it for "free", please don't. I'm living in self created hell.

PS2. I've tried just accepting myself. It's not working :frown:

First of all, you definitely need a nose job. In fact, most people could with one.

More seriously, it will be very difficult for you get the rhinoplasty done on the NHS. You have to convince your GP, the gatekeeper to refer you on for a start. You will have to walk the tightrope of convincing an array of medical professionals that the appearance of your nose is causing you significant emotional harm but that you are psychologically well adjusted in every other way. This is so they don't send you to some bull**** CBT or psychotherapy sessions to try and convince you to "love yourself", forget it, with that nose?! Also, reject any offers of anti depressants.

Also, if you go down the NHS route, it's doubtful you will be offered the chance to choose your surgeon or what you would like to change exactly.

So really, I'd advise you to think about the private option if you have at least £3k to spare. That will get you a bog standard cosmetic surgeon. Go for renowned specialists and you need to double that initial budget.

I've had a nose job on the NHS before, I broke my nose rather badly and it was an absolute mess. I was referred to the ear nose and throat department at my local hospital, surprisingly quickly I had an operation. It looks sooooooooo much better than it did before! Go to your doctor, tell them how you feel, if you nose is rather distinguishable then they will do it. Despite what others are saying, the surgeons are highly trained and professional, atleast they were at my hospital, however if you can afford to go private I recommend that even more.

It might also be worth discussing your self-esteem with your doctor, this kind of reaction isn't healthy or normal, maybe they can assist. Good luck getting this though, it's a hard decision to make but you wont regret it-I don't

There are so many things that I hate about my body and my face OP, like many people. I know how it feels to not accept yourself, for example, you feel like it's unfair that you've been given a big nose and other people haven't. But, instead of hiding yourself, face your fears, face the world and come to terms with your big nose. Yes, you do have a big nose, but in the future, you can change your nose. In the future, you can save up enough money to change the way you perceive yourself. Think about the future, constantly stick to the future. Make a plan. Get a part-time job and save it up, and then you can do what you want with your own money.

What you also have to understand OP, is that, you still had a relationship with a guy (and possibly more?), so he obviously liked you even with the flaw that you've mentioned. So there are people out there that will accept your flaws and embrace them. Change the way you think. Think about the future.
