London is extortionately expensive, in every way. That's why, as a Londoner, I didn't apply to any London Universities. As a struggling, skint student, it is a major worry.
just my opinion.

Is it really that expensive? I've read that in the same shops that are in the rest of the country the prices increase? I've been to London a handful of times but I've only really noticed the expense of the tube.

You do get a bigger loan though for London. I could get up to an extra 2,000 but I suppose that's to compensate for housing prices.

SOAS, for example, is just off Russell Square, about 5 minute walk from Euston Station, pretty much the West End of London. A pint of Lager will be around a fiver, a sandwich about the same. TBH £2000 won't cover the difference in that part of London, I assume the accom is close to the Uni.
I don't want to put you off because London is a wonderful city, second to none and I'm proud to call myself a born and bred Londoner. I just don't want to live at home throughout my University life and I don't want to worry about being able to eat and socialise either.
Accommodation at Birmingham is nearly half the price of some of the London accom.
Anyone know how urgent it is with regards to accomodation? :frown:

It's first come first served and people have been applying since December, you don't have to firm or insure to apply for accom, you can do it as soon as you get your offer, so it's in your best interest to apply asap.

Blinded by the prestige, I didnt give living costs that much thought but you're rights its probably too expensive to be comfortable living and studying there.

I've firmed the English Lit and American Studies course, but it's nice to hear of someone else who is taking American Studies - I haven't heard anyone else mention it! Do you have a conditional or unconditional?
