The Official World Cup 2014 Thread

This is the thread where we can discuss everything to do with the World Cup throughout the tournament.

This year it is to be held in Brazil - can England improve on their dismal showing 4 years ago ? Will there be a shock winner ? Could Brazil win it in their own country or will they succumb to the pressure ?

Sweepstake

I plan to run a world cup sweepstake this year as well. We need 32 entrants and each will be drawn a team at random.Entry is first come ,first served and is one team each ( I may open it up to 2 each if we are struggling with numbers) and is free - you just need to quote me on this thread and say you want a team. The winner will be the one who has the team that wins at the end. Once we are nearer the time I'll ask TSR admins if they can get us a prize or something to make the whole thing worthwhile :smile:

Finally ... remember it's all in one rhythm :biggrin:

I think a World Cup sub-forum is going to be made closer to the time though since there will be a lot of discussion. Way more than one thread can handle.

It'll have to be, one mega thread just won't cut it. I can't remember what happened here for the last World Cup but I would imagine that as soon as the domestic season is over one would be set up. Hard to believe there's only a month or so to go!

Pretty sure someone has already made one of these :p:

And we ran Sweepstakes for the last Euro's and WC, one tends to be for money which some people don't mind doing and concurrently we ran another one for rep iirc. When we get the WC sub-forum I'm sure people will be willing to help you with it.
can we have a results prediction game, kind of thing?

Did one at work for the euros..

Each set of fixtures was done in batches, so you would put up the first round of games, and everyone would make a guess at each.. then the next set of games, etc.. then eventually the quarters as a round, then the semis, then finals etc.

From memory it was something like 1pt for a correct result, and 3pts for a correct score..

Table builds up as the tournement goes on, until there was a winner at the end..

Same as the premier league predictions thread then - I'm happy to do that, sounds like a good idea :smile:

i'm sure somebody will create a separate thread for WC predictions, similar to the premier league one.
prizes for that would be cool too, even if it's rep or whatever.

plus it would be doable since i can't keep up with premier league ones, but a tournament one would be fun and short-lived :biggrin:

Prize is a good idea

not sure if they still do.. but they used to do TSR competition things where you won amazon vouchers for things... - the only time I remember them doing it with football was with the FA cup last year, where the person who got nearest to the correct score won a voucher..

Would certianly spice things up and bring in some interest, if they had a small prize..

I mean we are all very competative, the nature of the prize is irrelivant, as people will fight over it, regardless of what it is..
