The Student Room Group

AQA AS Sociology help from a predicted 'A' grade student.

Yeah. Hello! Name's Megan, but stuff the introductions.

i'm sort of determined to prove to both myself and my family that I can actually help people out with Sociology and not just Medicine, as my parents would love to have me believe.

So if anyone needs any help with anything like layout / content for
15 / 30 mark answers {unit one- Families & Households} 12 / 20 mark answers {unit two- Education / Educational policy}

- Definitions for both units
- Research methods layout / content (unit two papers)

then let me know please? and please don't be shy.

I can't really predict what'll be on the exam, but I will say that I have a feeling (aka i've been told by half the college staff) that the exam boards will probably make the exams easier to do as a result of the January exams being scrapped, so there will be more to remember for the June ones, which isn't really fair.

I can, however, say with a large degree of certainty that they aren't likely to put the same questions on the paper 2 years in a row, so below are links to the JUNE 2013 Unit 1 + 2 exam papers, with a brief overview of the questions below

- Last years unit one questions

Definition (2 mark): Infant Mortality Rate

Suggest (4 mark): Rise in life expectancy

Identify (6 mark): Change in divorce rate

Examine (24 mark): Conjugal Roles

- Last years unit two questions
Education :

Definition (2 mark): Material Deprivation

Identify (6 mark): G/ment policies reducing social-class inequality

Outline (12 mark): anti-school subcultures

Item (20 mark): Gender difference in achievement and subject choice.

Research Methods :

Methods in context (20 mark): Group interviews / Questionnaires

Definition (2 mark) : Objectivity

Suggest (4 mark): disadvantages - longitudinal research

Suggest (4 mark) : advantages - structured interviews

General Methods (20 mark) : Non / Covert ppt. obs.

I hope this has helped in some form aha

What is the best way to set out a 24 marker for question on family?

hey could you tell me what to include in essays about:

-the family losing its functions
-government policies influencing family
-changes in family size

thanks!
I predict the 24 Mark question will either be on feminists views to family roles and relationship, social policies, or childhood

Social Policies Which affect the family:

Thatcher's policies

Community Care Extended
Changes in Tax Laws
EMA cut for 16-18 Years olds

John Major

Child Support Act
Child Act

Labour

New Deal
Working Tax Credits
Child Tax Credit
2002 Adoption Laws
2004 Civil Partnership Act

Other Policies:

Only allowed to be married to one person
Extended education til the age of 18
Disability Pensions
Maternity and Paternity Leave.
Divorce Laws
Immigration Laws

Coalition Government

Recent budget cuts in public sector and NHS
Women's National Commission was cut.

You could be asked questions such as:

1. How do social policies support patriarchy
2. How do social policies support marriage and the conventional nuclear family
3. Examine how social policies have affected family diversity.
4. How have social families affected family life
