I don't know, the person who posted the mark scheme thinks its postman?

It is postman because in the text it said they get attacked or something by dogs which is what often happens to postman
Original post by kshah99
I wrote down a postman as well because windsurfing could just be his hobby and usually postmen deliver things in the morning and have to walk from door to door

ah fair enough:-)

Sadly I don't know them. The hotel question was on about the opinions from customers and whether their response was positive, negative or both.

i know, why is sailor not the answer?

It said something about being chased by dogs, early morning and that he enjoyed watching sailing on the TV or doing it as a hobby or something.

Does anyone have an estimate on the grade boundaries?

Also, I want to clarify: On the listening, there was one on refugees which was two separate marks, can anyone remember it? Also, there was one about a guy, didn't he feed the dogs and felt upset for them?
Reply 49
It wasn't too bad, but i do think the solar panels question was pretty hard though. hoping for low grade boundaries. I missed out a few marks...oh god. I'm dreading results day
Reply 50
No I said that he was scared of his dad having a heart attack too so I got the same lol

Good effort on your part Sulfur for the mark scheme. One thing, I'm fairly sure that for the solar panels one, if you put "good for the economy", you wouldn't get it. Faire des Economies translates as "to save money", and I think that the mark scheme will say to specifically reject references to the economy. For Q16, I believe one of the reasons was something along the lines of "teachers are able to tell who is not meant to be in school" and the other one was something like "everyone looks the same, so people don't get bullied about being poor". BUT it is a week since the exam, so I may be imagining things

Now I have the paper, I can have a go at my own unofficial mark scheme to fill in the gaps of the above. (I'm only a GCSE student so there might be a few errors)

Reading - Higher

1. Water
USA - Good
England - Mixed
Australia - Bad
Brazil - Bad (possibly mixed)
Switzerland - Good

2. Jobs
a - Postman
b - Nurse
c - Teacher
d - Refuse collector
e - Chef

3. Social issues
Jean - Unfair treatment in the job market
Arif - Unfair treatment of immigrants
Elodie - Discrimination by gender
Anne - Consequences of anti-social behaviour

4. Gap year
Travel for pleasure - Angelique
Teach - Kevin
Job to pay for travel - Angelique
AIDS - Theo
Poor tech knowledge - Kevin
Change govt thinking - Theo

5. Planet problems

Item 1 - Irresponsible city dwellers (leaving dog crap everywhere)
Item 2 - Conflict causing environmental catastrophe
item 3 - Reduction in pollution
Item 4 - Avoidable disaster

6. School problems

7. Mathieu's dodgy house party

He had so many people at his party because ... he put an invite on his personal web page.
The damage was... someone writing in lipstick on the wall.
The police... gave the invitees five minutes to leave, told us we were disturbing the neighbours, and made him call his parents
He was worried because... he thought his dad would have a heart attack (figurative, hopefully)
He has a good relationship with his parents... because his mother said it wasn't his fault, and after he had done loads of household tasks as punishment, they never talked of the whole thing again.

8. Happiness
D likes to spoil themselves
A is reliant on the success of others
E likes being appreciated in a relationship
C likes being made welcome

9. Media
Advantages of traditional media... there are debates that help us understand events, watching the news is part of one's routine, you have immediate pictures from reporters around the world
Advantages of new media... images online often do not carry a political bias, you can see exactly what is going on, you can see things that would never be on TV, you can rewatch things as often as you want, there are films of funny accidents that are censored on TV, social networks can be used to show when governments are committing crimes

Listening to come by weekend, hopefully. Does anyone want Foundation doing?

It was a fairly standard paper by my reckoning. I don't see much reason for the boundaries to change from last year, so assuming they stay roughly constant, I estimate ~33 for an A*, 30 for an A, 27 for a B and 22 for a C.
