So many people On the internet always speak of 'hardcore gyms', but what makes a gym hardcore in your opinion?

I can tell you what doesn't make a gym 'hardcore' brah

- Radio music playing one direction
- Hex plates/rubber plates
- More smith machines than racks
- Some alarm that prohibits you from making any noise while lifting

Try go to any branch of muscleworks in the UK, the atmosphere is hugely different. They don't even let women in lmao. Ironically, everyone in these gyms are less judgmental.

Can't say anything about Muscleworks, but no women in the gym just sucks IMO. When I go to the gym, even though the experience is all about me, it's nice to get a diverse range of people in there.

Thanks. That was a good read. I believe too it's about the mentality of the people who are in the gym.

The whole 'hardcore' thing is mostly snobbery when loads of people say 'hardcore'. It's like some people need to be in some sort of stinky and dirty dungeon full of huge men to feel 'hardcore'. I understand the need for specialist equipment, but the way some of the 'brahs' talk of so called 'fitness gyms' is pure snobbery. Find another gym if you don't like a gym and quit bitching. Not every gym needs to be catered towards the needs of people who define themselves as 'bodybuilders'. If every gym did that a lot would be out of business.

Throwing and dropping weights unnecessarily is annoying though.

It's a gym that won't let you leave unless you're on a stretcher.

What about bumper plates? They're rubber.

I meant the nonstandard sized rubber plates you find in some gyms (the ones where 20kg plates are nearly the size of a 10kg plate). Got no gripe with bumper/Olympic plates.

If most people squat with the pussy pad, then it's not hardcore. ha.
Where this is a communal tray for chalk, very little sanitation, a lot of very heavy weights being pushed and pulled, where lifters care about what they are doing and not what everyone else is doing.
