AQA Politics Unit 4B

anyone taking 4B tomorrow? feminism and multi-c, ecologist, education and economy

I just did it, bit of a weird paper tbh, but i think it went okay. What did you do and what'd you write?
I did about ethnicity and gender, and education

What did you write for ethnicity/gender 30 marker? I'm positive I ****ed that one up. These exams have been brutal.

Oh, thank god, I haven't ****ed up as bad as I thought I had then. I got home and searched the definition of equality of outcome and it was mainly to do with the economy and I thought NOOOOOO. Anyways, the patriarchy question was easy. I was shocked too by the essay question. I wrote about how despite women gaining equality in the legal sphere it has failed to translate into the public and private reality. Talked about the pay gap, representation despite the use of quotas/shortlists, some other public sphere crap. Then I spoke about the private sphere. How despite legislation protecting women against domestic violence, rape and abuse, it has reached epidemic levels. Moreover, the justice system is failing them - obviously here I was going off track! Haha, then I spoke about ethnicity, which, despite leg, has failed to create a equality of outcome, or little equality regardless, I spoke about institutional racism, representation, pay gaps, and the rights of immigrants and asylum seekers as means of reinforcing the lack of support and equality within the UK. HOWEVER, I idiotically wrote about how the rising racial rhetoric and anti-multiculturalism attitudes are curbing liberties and rights of minorities, whilst also creating a hostile environment that only proves to create more racial tensions, more stigmas and reinforcing racial attitudes and inequalities, therefore failing to provide equality of outcome.

As you can see I ranted, and my essay wasn't focused enough - not much else I can do now. Just happy it's all over with. Good luck with results!

Doesn't look bad at all, i only briefly addressed pay gaps, but i hinted at it with the whole right to vote, right to property giving women and such more influence in the economic sphere. I included a good survey that i found stating that 96/100 CEO's in FTSE 100 positions were men, and that lord hailsham wanted, by 2015, "a quarter of all board positions to be occupied by women"
overall, yours sounds great, albeit different to mine in terms of the acts, but predominantly i think yours is a sound essay. What grades do you need for your university, and what course?

Damn, I wish I had that information in the exam! Very nice.

I need AAA and studying Philosophy and Economic or Philosophy, Politics and Law. What about you?

I'm predicted ABC, but I only need CCC to get in, as the uni appeared to be feeling very generous!(I'm doing politics)

What other question did you do?

I'm really scared about this exam too. I really feel like I missed out all the important things, I should have talked about the Divorce Reform Acts etc. I'm hoping people feel like we did, in terms of misinterpreting the question. I also answered the education section, easy enough I reckon, especially when compared with the ethnicity/gender train crash. How did you do on that section?

A lot of the stuff i talked about i didnt directly link to economic outcomes..:s
And the education one was fine, but i couldnt really think of any good arguments for the education not being a competitive market

Yeah I remember being stumped in the exam for stuff to argue against it but this is what I talked about:

Government controls/intervention: so, national curriculum, controlling teaching methods, getting rid of some choices/diversification made under Labour with the expansion of vocational courses, economic intervention i.e. pupil premium worth £6.25 bn. Also I spoke about how the tuition fee increase may appear to be introducing a market into the uni system, really it was a supplement for the government cuts i.e. 100% cuts to arts and humanities courses. I mainly wrote about free schools/academies, specialism and the Thatcher/Labour market introductions.

What are you predicted for Politics?

Considering the grade boundaries are much lower than in other exams we might get away with some ****-ups. Maybe we haven't ****ed up at all, if only people would answer your q on the other forum! haha

I'm predicted a B for politics, ****ed up last year because i didnt work, so i resat my as exams
I mainly talked about league tables, ofsted, the former specialist schools, incentivising competition and progress, and then i talked about internal competition often not being market driven, and some other stuff probably. And i suppose the grade boundaries are low, with the first exam being much easier and stuff it's likely to equal out
For gender and stuff though, propoerty for women, greater rights in the workplace under sex discrimination act etc, reckon thats ok? I kinda drifted from the point and i panicked and lost concentration (someone was getting told off in in the classroom next to the exam hall, and it was awfully off-putting!)

I definitely would say the economic points that you mentioned are very applicable and you used some dynamite research. Hopefully, we don't get docked too much for digressing - though you probably didn't digress as much as you think! And the points you covered for the education section are exactly what I used, maybe even better because I touched only a little on incentive, I think, I can't really remember (that exam is becoming more and more a massive blurred blob).
I wouldn't be worried though, you'll definitely get a C or above, and so will be going to uni. I've probably said this already, but no one looks at A levels after university, so no sweat, you can relax for the rest of the summer (and have nightmares of exams and results day).
