This reminds me about another issue : army recruits. Very few women want to join the military (only about 10% in the british armed forces) even though they are allowed in at least 80% of military jobs, since only about 10-20% of modern armies are actually involved in combat or auxiliary missions. In the US military only about 8% out of the already small female staff percentage (about 15%) want to go into combat and most of them want to be part of helicopter crews, not actual fighters.

Starting to think women don't want 50/50 when disgusting and deadly jobs are involved. Have cake, eat cake? So the question remains, what do we do to make women embrace the not so pleasant part of equality?

I can't find a percentage of female refuse collector in the UK but having lived in 3 cities I have yet to see a single one out of hundreds of workers so the number must be close to 0%.

I read an article similar to this, about the percentage of women doing jobs that are considered "male dominated". Like surgeons, HGV drivers, butchers etc etc. Only 3 female butchers in the UK apparently.

There are female dominated jobs and male dominated jobs. Some jobs are more suited for women, while others are more suited for men.

And since women haven't been allowed to do some of the jobs for so long, the numbers are going to be lower, because they're still male dominated. Women still aren't allowed on the frontline, hence there are less women fighters!

How is that in anyway about equality? Maybe if you take that stance a lot more males should also be cleaners?

I don't know why there are so few lady butchers---as long as you can hold a knife, know your cuts, and can talk backwards ("Give the dee-lo wock some dee-lo wock!" --- heard in a Chelsea butcher's shop, translates to "Give the old cow some old cow!") having tits and a **** shouldn't be a problem.

I was thinking this. Cleaners, nurses, midwives, child minders, etc.... All female dominated jobs. Why don't men do these jobs?

I would say it's a lack of female role models in these fields.

When is the last time you saw a strong female sewage worker on the telly?

When you go into Toys R Us, the boys' dolls are all rubbish collectors and blue collar criminals, and the girls' are all fashion designers and escorts.

And maybe they should change those hi-vis jackets from yellow to pink.

there is no reason why ladies cannot make a successful career in the sewage industry. people will always need to go to the lavatory ?
if they can break through the glass S-bend they can become powerful sewage executives.

I agree that men and women are better at different jobs whether we're talking physical or (shock-horror) inherent psychological differences. But if you look at some areas where men had complete dominance women were kept out simply based on their sex, women are thriving in them now and it didn't take long at all (law, medicine, pharmacy etc). But they're still being held back by some invisible force from many STEM areas even in the most liberal and progressive countries in the world, like Sweden.

In fact , it seems the more choice and freedom have the more they are likely to stay away from anything maths related, work part time, stay at home. Only about 1/3 of female Ivy league graduates work full time. Sweden has some of the highest % of women working part time in the world and very few choose STEM degrees, worst % than in total poverty countries or theocracies.

As for the military, women are allowed in most positions since modern warfare only involves 10-20% of army members being on the front line or in combat roles. Yet women still choose to stay out.

Women don't have to choose STEM jobs or army jobs. It's not about high percentages of women in these fields, it's about women having the choice to enter these fields if they want to. Women have the freedom to choose any jobs they want. So what if they want to stay at home, or work part time or work in non-STEM fields, then they can. The point is it doesn't matter if women do not take the jobs open to them if they don't want to. Just like men don't take jobs that they don't want to do. It's choice.

For me personally I don't want to do these jobs because I'm simply not passionate about them. I'm passionate about the career I'm trying to pursue, and it's not male dominated, but that doesn't matter to me. It's simply what I'm interested in.

Because they pay little and men are under more pressure to earn and because men aren't naturally good at caring jobs. Also, for midwives and child minders, pretty sure a lot of women/parents wouldn't be ok with it.

I know, carers for the elderly as well.

Most of those jobs involve doing tasks that many find disgusting. But of course they won't pay attention to this.

Well big business plc needs female stool pigeons to make themselves look good in the city. After a year or two of shoulder rubbing and networking, you will rise above the pond scum leaving the men behind.

Even more chance if your blonde and pretty,,far more photogenic in the company literature.

No, my point is feminists always demand equality in engineering, board rooms and parliament but not in the most dangerous and disgusting jobs known to man (literally, since almost no women do them).
