How do you pass the Hazard Perception?

I've failed it twice now. :frown:

First time I got disqualified for clicking too much, this time around I clicked less and still failed, despite seeing all the hazards both times.

Is it possible to click too early? How many times should I click? Should you click the moment you see a potential hazard, or just when it starts developing?

I don't understand what they want! D: All these theory tests are getting very expensive.

Thanks y'all.

Yeah it is possible to click too early: As soon as I saw what I thought was the hazard I clicked immediately, but then waiting for a second or so before clicking again to make sure that even if I clicked too early I'd still get some marks for it, and if I thought I needed to click again just in case I did. I limited myself to no more the 8 clicks per clip and that was fine.

hope that makes some sort of sense! Good luck on your next one!

This.

Or, as I did in my HP test, click when somebody wants to die. That works well too! :yep:
The way I did it was
-see a potential hazard, click
-wait a second, click
-wait one more second, click.

And that I made sure I got marks for it. There was one scene I didn't score marks in, if I recall (and thinking back, there genuinely just didn't seem to be a hazard in one of the scenes), but I got points in every other clip.

I passed my theory first time (not bragging) and this is what I did:

1: Practiced loads
2: Click a maximum of 8 times per click.
3: Click when you first see the hazard twice about half a second apart.
4: Click again as you maneuver around the hazard or w.e
5: Stay focused because the clip may have 2 hazards as you probably know.
6: Here is an online one that I found useful: http://www.ldcdownloads2.co.uk/freestuff/freehptest/hptestsim.html

This was exactly how I was told to do it, and worked first time

Failed twice by one mark.

Basically just click as soon as you spot a hazard, and then again if it develops. i.e. a stationary lorry pulls out, etc

But yeah HP is a classic example of the government being lazy and giving a ****e hoop to jump through

Click if you basically see anything which COULD mean you REDUCE your speed. E.g. if you see someone standing on the pavement waiting to cross, click once and after a tiny bit of time, click again. I probably had over 10 clicks in just 1 clip doing this but i got something like 10 points above the pass mark fortunately.

Also take into account the environment in which your placed. If your in a tight compact street with cars parked on the side, chances are that the hazard is going to be someone waiting to cross and crossing anyways even though you've been driving at them for 20 minutes, conversely in a country road its likely to be animals / other vehicles.
how do you prepare for hazard perception if youre really cheap (poor).

Do you have to buy some hazard perception dvd or can i do it without it?
Ok I'll let you know about my hazard perception. Basically I passed my theory first time scoring 59/75 on hazard perception.
1) if you have the money and a smart phone I suggest using the official DSA theory test kit it's £4.99 but totally worth it instead of paying another £31 for another theory test. Using this I got 49/50 for multiple choice as well. The app covers both parts and details on what to do.
2) on the actual test click once when you see a hazard then clck again a few seconds more and then again a few seconds more. This is how I did it and managed to get 59/75 DONT over click it though as you may be disqualified from that clip. If you follow these 2 steps you should be on your way to pass the theory.
I done my theory in February and have my practical in 2 weeks ahhh

so this official DSA test kit is just an app or you download it on your computer? do you have a link perhaps. and this is just £4.99, i think i can manage that....its just annoying how everything seems to cost something when its to do with driving (just want to get my full licence already lol)!
Uhm I'm not sure if it's online, I'll have a look but it is seriously worth it because it teaches you what to do and has an inbuilt Highway Code etc. I started using it in January, learnt all the information, then from about 3/4 into jan started doing 2 mock tests a day and before my theory I was mostly getting 48/50, 49/50. The only thing with the hazard perception is that there are only 12 clips on the app but after each clip you can choose to see where you get the 5,4,3,2,1 points etc so you'd hopefully be able to apply that for the actual test

What I did...

Buy the book: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Theory-Test-Drivers-Book/dp/0115532315/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1404592808&sr=8-2&keywords=driving+theory+test+2014
Buy the app: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/theory-test-uk-driving-test/id609636705?mt=8
Buy the DVD (most importantly): http://www.amazon.co.uk/Driving-Test-Success-Tests-Edition/dp/1843265753/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404592799&sr=8-1&keywords=driving+theory+test+2014

Those above are what I bought and passed first time easily.

Here are some free hazard perception tests for you, I have posted links below. This is all you need if you don't do the same clip more than once obviously. Best of luck.

Thanks, so do you think this would be enough if i dont buy all the other stuff you mentioned (if it helps i am experienced with the actual driving...want to get my theory done so i can book my practical)

I would suggest buying the DVD. The theory test is £32, and the DVD is £6.66. It is worth buying the DVD, revising then passing first time rather than taking a chance and possibly failing then having to pay another £32 to retake the test. However, having said that it is still possible (but hard) to pass the theory test without the DVD or books, I just don't recommend it, and it could be costly.

Link to the DVD I used: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Driving-Test-Success-Tests-Edition/dp/1843265753/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404592799&sr=8-1&keywords=driving+theory+test+2014

Good luck

Easy. I used a website called drivingtheory4all. It provides you with everything you need for you theory test, including a HUGE bank of hazard perception clips (over a hundred...I think). I went through those hundred or so clips the night before the exam, I got better and better. You just have to practise doing a lot of clips and you'll get it eventually.
