What are the biggest changes when going uni?

Cooking and cleaning for yourself, and possibly making sure you get up on time. You'll do your own shopping and are generally more accountable and responsible for your actions.


Aside from the independence, it's a lot like college. You're an adult and shall have to act like one, but you still have a few fall-backs. I didn't find it that significant moving to university though.

Thanks for your reply, in terms of independence, what is new, as in what do u have to do that u never needed to do before whilst living at home.

It depends on the person. Some people are protected by their parents and barely have to lift a finger around the house, others do significant amounts of work and manage themselves.


Cooking and cleaning are the big ones. Managing money is a downfall for a lot of people with student loans. You are individually responsible for getting work done on time and they are less forgiving with hand-in dates, re-sits and things like that.

You will also join your own societies and potentially join the executive members of societies or university groups. So you may be reponsible for running a club or be involved with university operations (representatives, staffing, etc). Basically you no longer have to ask for permission to do anything, which can be daunting for some. You go to bed when you want, meet with whom you want and generally run your own life without much external intervention.
