Germany v Argentina
World Cup 2014
The Final
8.00pm BST, Sunday 13 July 2014
Estádio Maracanã, Rio de Janeiro

Welcome to the match thread for the 2014 FIFA World Cup final. It's been a fantastic tournament so far, with plenty of goals, skills, shocks, and even some controversy thrown in too. There have been a number of impressive sides, and some who were flat throughout. We've now arrived at the final destination, with both Germany and Argentina fighting for the right to hold the Jules Rimet trophy aloft and be crowned World Cup champions for 2014. Germany have blitzed their way into the final, comfortably disposing of heavyweights such as Portugal, France and most emphatically, Brazil. Have they peaked too soon? Argentina meanwhile have stuttered their way through, with who else but Messi being their most influential figure as they attempt to land the holy grail for the 3rd time in their history.

Here's a reminder of how both sides made it to this stage(With BBC highlights):

Kinda hope Argentina wins and Messi sparkles so I can say with some confidence I've seen the GOAT in my lifetime... but Germany look too good and they were my pre-tournament prediction.

Argentina's defence is poor. No match for Germany. 4-0 Germany.
Think Germany will win 3-1 after extra time with the score being 1-1 after 90 minutes. Germany have the stronger squad and have had the best back 5 in the world cup so far.

My God, we got it now. It doesn't need 1000 posts with caps to make us understand.

I don't need to be German to find you irritating...

I'd even take a loss if only you zipped it finally.

Logically Germany, but I'm going to go with Argentina.

Di Maria always seems to shine in finals, so I'm pipping him to be MOTM if he recovers.
One team will win their first WC since 1986
or the other team will win their first WC since 1990

One team will win their third WC
or the other team will win their fourth WC

One team usually made up of players based in their own country
or the other team usually made up of players based in another continent

(Actually, the stats are against ARG because GER have beaten them three times in World Cup matches since they won in 1986)

Oh, and the third placed match: BRA have home advantage but NED beat them in the previous WC...

I can see Germany winning but I'm not losing hope on Argentina just yet. Argentina's defense started off pretty bad, but they have actually pulled it together, judging by this and the last game. They still have a chance.
Germans are gonna lose

I'm a big fan of South American football so I'll definitely be rooting for Argentina. C'mon Argentina.
Germany got this

3-1

Argentina is getting annihilated.
The Germans are, quite simply, superior in every way.

I think this could go 2:0 either way. I voted for Germany, but I am worried that they will be too confident after the SF and make mistakes. :cry2:
