Why do people have unprotected sex if they don't want a baby?

Well I think it works differently for different women.. My ex gf's period cycle was messed up after going on the pill though.

I'm going to go ahead an assume she only tried one of the many available types of hormonal pills. Every woman is different and can react differently to hormonal changes, that is why there are many different types of pill. While she may not have reacted well to the combined pill (oestrogen and progesterone) she may very well have had positive effect from the minipill (progesterone only).
Any decent sexual health nurse will describe all the different types of birth control in full and any of the positive or negative side affects that can occur and what you can do if the negatives happen (which is usually try a different type of pill).

I think it can take up to 3 months for the hormones in the pill to fully leave your system, this does not however mean it takes 3 months before you can get pregnant, in fact it only take 2 missed pills for that to become possible. What it means by 3 months to leave your system is that it takes (up to) that long for the woman's hormone cycle to regulate itself back to normal levels (though her levels once missing two pills are not subnormal enough to stop her getting pregnant)

Also yes that is correct about being ill, though there is a very detailed and informative instruction packet that comes with pills that tells you what to do in these instances for mine it states that if I have vomited within 4 hours of taking the pill then I must take another and if I have had diarrhoea within 6 hours of taking the pill to take another and to use extra protection such as condoms if symptoms persist after having taken the back up pills.

She might have been on the mini pill; that can cause irregular bleeding. I know someone who had periods which lasted six weeks when she was on that :eek:

If you read my other posts- I'm not exactly condoning the fact that some people just have unprotected sex- but I'm not stupid enough to ignore the fact it happens due to people being in the heat of the moment and accidents do happen.

Unprotected sex? Yes. Accidental babies? No.

Haven't you heard of the morning after pill? Abortions?

Neg me, don't care, the MAIN purpose of sex is reproduction so why be surprised if you fall pregnant if on or off contraception? If you know you're not ready for a child don't have sex simple.

One of the main purposes. It's also used for pleasure, stress relief, socialising, weight loss etc.

If it's the heat of the moment then most likely people won't be able to look past the '15 minutes of pleasure' at all- it's easier to say that than to actually do it. Noone should be sterilised.

Because preventing a pregnancy is not just the role of the man, women should be trying to prevent it just as much as men do.

Yeah but when you're looking through this thread and others like it, you see people mentioning that condoms are awful and they'd rather she was just on the pill, so women seem to be doing more than men in these situations.

She doesn't - she could use a diaphragm instead if she wants, although they're less effective.

Condomless sex often doesn't just feel better for the guy. If both people want condomless sex, then it's more or less down to the woman to take contraceptive measures.

1) Negs haven't existed for quite some time...

2) Not to be pernickety, but strictly speaking there is no 'purpose' when it comes to the mechanics of biology. Things have functions, and the useful functions tend to stick around through the millennia. The 'biological purpose' of something isn't a meaningful phrase. Sex has consequences, one of which is procreation. That is all.
