solving equations with fractions

I do not know where to start with this type of question.

can someone give me a step by step guide please on how to solve this problem.

------- = --------
3 4

2y - 1 y
--------- = ------
3 2

cross multiplying like the book says but that does not give me the answer.

As james22 says, show us the first step you get after you cross-multiply.
