Are Gurkhas stealing British Army jobs?

As we all know, there are many nationalities that serve in the British military. The Gurkhas are the best known but there are many other nationalities, many from former colonies such as the Caribbean.

But if we want a law that reserves British jobs for British people, we will have to wind up the Gurkha regiments and replace them with ones made up of British people.

The military due to it's role can (and does) negotiate certain exemptions.

No real danger there. It's sort of considered an institution apart.

Maybe, maybe not. But I know one thing there is nothing wrong with prioritizing them and making sure they have the education training to do them. In fact it is immoral not to.
Rather a Gurkha regiment than a chav regiment.

Bet OP thought that Polish and Czech Battle of Britain squadrons were also "taking British jobs"...

The Gurkhas have been drawn down significantly, and probably disporportionately compared to other infantry battalions.

In the mid 90s, there were 5 Gurkha battalions, the engineers, transport and signals - plus all the silly bits.

Now there are only two battalions. The rest of the infantry went from 50 odd to 24.

Let someone else's best people die for you rather than your own lowlifes.
Gurkhas are much better fighters than some British nationals who only think they deserve jobs based on their skin colour.
Economically it makes sense to have better fighters who are more efficient and that's Gurkhas.

Given that their is simply insufficient demand from British natives to work in the armed forces (failing to meet quotas) in addition to the NHS and schools, the idea that we should curtail immigration in these sectors is naïve (unless you want to foot the tax bill for the massively increased salary required to attract more natives).

Far from less foreign troops in our armed forces, we need more.
No The Gurkhas are a great asset to have in our Armed Forces, they may be from a foreign country but they aren't like your average foreign mercenary they are immensely proud and loyal to the British Army, Britain and the Queen.

Nepal is an incredibly poor country the Gurkhas who come over are just as poor as any Africans you see on TV, The British Army offers an escape for them a chance of building a better life, nearly a hundred thousand of them apply each year but just over 100 that make it, it's not just infantry they can join they also have various Signals, Engineer & RLC squadrons. Because they come from such a poor country, they will work incredibly hard and they will stay incredibly loyal to us for giving them that chance. One thing about Gurkhas is that they are always happy they always have a smile on their face because they know how lucky they are, but on the battlefield they are incredibly brave men who would fight and die for this country and I would be just as proud to fight beside a Gurkha as I would a Brit.

I would far rather we welcome the Nepalese people and their culture into this country than the likes of Pakistan, India etc they are a hardworking, non violent people

They aren't taking British positions though. Really they're an additional asset for the Army rather than a replacement for what would be a 'British' brigade. Considering the nature and history of the Gurkhas it would be silly to view them as taking 'British jobs'.

Nice to see zenophobia is alive and kicking. How about some facts cf table of stats for World War 1. Does this prove the British / UK empire like to leave the French, Russians to fight their battles for them perhaps?
