How would you feel if you moved into halls and one of your flatmates ended up being a Muslim? I'm probably being paranoid but I can't help but think they'd be disappointed for whatever reason, e.g I don't drink.
I'm not overly religious and still go to clubs and such but order a soft drink, it's just that there isn't many or I didn't see many other Muslims during applicant days, (university of Leeds), and I guess I'm used to their company.
I didn't opt for the halal dietary requirement as it means I'll be placed in a single gender flat and I really don't want that, I don't mind the fridge sharing and all that jazz as long as the foods are not touching.
Why should it bother you? Some of my friends are already muslim or hindu and we still have a lot of things in common outside of studies. But then again, I'm not the parting kind

Edit: this is my friends account, I'm a guy.
OMG! I'm so offended by this. You know one thing? Muslims are also humans!
I'd be a bit concerned that they'd be judgemental of me, as was the (lapsed) Catholic I lived with in first year, at first. But I don't care about wild parties, I hate seeing people being pressured to drink, and I can deal with "fussiness" over where food goes, as long as it's reasonable for me to stick to! As long as you're a decent person, I don't see that it should matter, and if it does, you live with idiots (or possibly you're not as great a person as you think).
I'm not trying to offend Muslims, or anyone for that matter.
You clearly have but.
Anyways I want to ask you one thing. Why is it such a big deal if you end up with a Muslim in halls? We're not all terrorists, in fact you won't find any, especially here in the UK.

You keep saying you're offended by posts after misreading them, or not realising the very obvious satirical intentions of the poster. Is this deliberate?
You do know that they are not gong to hold you hostage until you convert to Islam? If it bothers you that much the try and talk to your accommodation officer. (You probably ate halal meat in school -school dinners- anyway so...)
Jokes, I'm a nice friendly Muslim. Probably won't leave my room or the library. I want to get a 1st degree classification before I plan anything suspicious.

Y'all can't read. OP is the Muslim who is concerned about his religion disappointing others.
The one thing you aren't short of in halls is people to drink with, no one will be bothered if you won't drink. A lot of stuff does involve drinking so you may feel a little left out, but no one will be angry at you or anything.
I lived with a Pakistani Muslim guy in first year. I couldn't stand him. But that was because he was an antisocial dick not because of his ethnicity or religion.

Read the post again, the op IS Muslim and is asking what people would think about sharing halls with Muslims
@OP - you really have nothing to worry about, not drinking won't make you the wet blanket, it definitely isn't all about drinking and you'll make plenty of friends, both non-Muslim and Muslim
Once you get to university you can join different societies and meet people who share the same interests
Considering there were 100 people in my halls 30 people per flat. I didn't even know all the people I lived with by the end of the year. Nobody will even care what religion you are. I don't have a clue if any of my friends are religious or not.
You are being paranoid, most of the people you meet at uni are very accepting people. There is always going to be a small minority that wont like it. But you don't have to be friends with those people.
