Ask me anything- I graduated at RHUL, lived in Founders, Weddarburn + Egham

I went back to the Royal Holloway yesterday to get references for a Masters course and only then did I realise what a great experience University was for me and my friends. I strongly recommend that those of you who have chosen to study at Royal Holloway prepare adequately for the times of your life.

The University experience is about learning how to learn, making lifelong friends (and possibility enemies), going on dates and falling in love but most importantly it's about growing up. It's an experience that you will treasure forever and I'm sure you're all looking forward to it. If you haven given University much thought, now is the time to starting preparing! The good times lies ahead.

I've had an awesome time there and I want to help prepare you soon-to-be-FRESHERS so that you can go and have a smashing time at Royal Holloway!

Ask me anything and I'll answer.

How long does it take to walk from Egham station to the uni?

In my first year I lived in Founders I used to do the walk all the time.

The walking time from Founders to Egham station is roughly 20 minutes, this is assuming you walk fast, have not much weight and don't bump into people and stop. If you live in Weddarburn/Gowar it would be roughly 17 minutes. The shortest walk is if you live near the back gates in Egham.

Are you on the Facebook group btw? We have had a similar discussion on there.
I want to go to Royal Holloway to do computer science because i know that it's one of the best unis for information security :P Do you know how much the work load is for computer science? and any computer science students' opinions on the course?

The guy that lived next to me in Founders was a computer genius. I know that towards the end of 1st year they had to make a 2d computer game. The computer science course is quite popular at RHUL and the information security course is very competitive so you should really develop a good relationship with the tutors in your undergraduate studies so that it d be easier to get into the MsC program.

Unfortunately thats all I know..
how was freshers week? were peop;e nice?
are there rooms that are shared ensuite?

Shared rooms are not ensuite, none are.

Freshers week was amazing, it truly is that epic experience you hear people describing IF you put yourself out there and have fun. By put yourself out there, I mean, making yourself available to go out every night (not necessarily drinking), by making friends at every opportunity and learning about the University and what events are on.

Hi,

I've been offered a room in Founders (W330), I don't really know much about it as I didn't get to look around on the open day and it wasn't one of my top choices! Could you please tell me a bit about it? For example, what is the food like, how many people share a bathroom, can you have mates to stay, etc.

Thank you in advance!

Holly is that a shared room? You know the W stands for West side? I had a friend live in 333 and the shared room opposite it which I suspect to be 330. You d be sharing with the other girls on your floor and the food will be from Founders Dining Hall downstairs. You can get more info on the food from te Rhul website.

I strongly recommend you find out more info about Founders from the guys and girls on the Facebook group because the majority of the people in the group are current students so they would know best.

Chocolate - the freshers week program changes every year. The SU will release the schedule closer to freshers week. You can see last years freshers week schedule in the description of the Facebook group for RH freshers 2014/15

Nope, Im a strange one in that Im starting a PhD thats split between 9 institutions in the first term. Royal Holloway and Brunel are going to be a bit of a ridiculous commute -_-

The bathrooms are pretty standard. See the Virtual Tour to see if they have it there:

Hiya,

Yes that link has expired because we have a new official Facebook page for Freshers!

It's now here: https://www.facebook.com/RHWelcomeWeek2014

We're really looking forward to welcoming all of our new students during Welcome Week!

Best

Emily
I think you ruined it.

Where do all the students chat about their halls and course now via Facebook like we were doing with the previous group?

This one may also be useful to join too as it also contains information on arrivals as well as events: https://www.facebook.com/groups/276446345871390/

I hope this helps,
