Thanks I got the email off the Nuffield and i wondered why they do height and wieght again? I just passed the medical with a 28 Bmi and my fitness isn't till 3:45 in the afternoon. So if I'm over will th they say I can't do the fitness if I'm over 28 as i will have to have dinner before that time to perform well?

I'm not sure about others, but in my personal experience, my height and weight was taken after I had completed the fitness test.

The only reason they wouldn't have allowed me to do it is if my blood pressure was too high as this was taken before the test.

Thanks... That's put me at ease slightly as i work out 6 times a week and am not fat just well built (occasional lifting and wieght workouts) but I know my blood pressure is fine so I aint got any problems there....

I wouldn't worry too much, it's fairly straight forward. Just do it and pass, and it's done! Sounds simple because it is. As I've already said, the PJFT was by far the quickest and easiest part of it for me (out of the AST, Interview and Medical), and it was soon over and done with.

Like you, I was a bit nervous about certain things, but as soon as I'd passed I wondered why I'd spent time even thinking about it. Just natural I guess!

I don't think they are there to disqualify you, as you were passed by a doctor already. But saying that, have a light lunch with some carbs for energy in it at least 2 hrs before test and you should be fine.

You found your PJFT easier than medical? How? Not like you have to do much during medical
What were your PJFT scores and times? Did nervousness and adrenaline made it worse or better?

The medical has a lot of points where anything can go wrong. You just have to sit there and hope your body is as healthy as you think it is. I was told by the nurse/doctor that she's had people who thought they were 100% fine but when they had a listen to their heart, they had either an irregular heart beat or a heart murmur which prevented them from joining. I found the fitness much less of a task as it was 100% down to me if I passed or not. Medical is out of your hands, and I just found that a bit unnerving.

For the PJFT I did 50 press-ups in about 45 seconds and stopped as I was told as long as I had done 20 (minimum) then I could stop whenever. I could have gone for 60 seconds and probably done about 60 but I thought I'd leave room for improvement for when I get to Halton. For the sit-ups I managed 47 and I have to admit that was flat out. 47 in 60 seconds was my maximum at the time. I now think I could probably do about 50-55.

My run time isn't really worth mentioning, as it's not exactly impressive. I did enough to pass, and enough to know that when I do it again during BRTC, I could probably take about 30-50 seconds off it easily. I didn't see the point in giving it max effort for the run, as it would have made it 100x harder to improve for training.

Obviously there were some nerves there for me. I had my blood pressure taken and it was a little high first time so I waited a few minutes, calmed down, relaxed and focused and it dropped right down to where it should be. I think it's natural to be nervous. I just knew what I had to do, and made sure I did it. I didn't think for a minute that I would fail the PJFT and I think that mindset helped me more than anything. And obviously, adrenalin plays a huge part too. You know exactly why you're doing it, and where you'll end up if you pass. Those thoughts will definitely help you through it.

The best bit of advice I can give is that your mind will give up before your body does. If you start to think your tired or your hurting, you're not, most of the time. Just keep going. I had moments during the press-ups where I thought, 'Wow, my arms are really hurting now, I need a rest'. Then I told myself to stop being so stupid and carry on. It's only a few seconds more and I'm done. It really is a mental task as much as it is a physical task.

I'm gonna need all the luck I can get i reckon. Did the teat yesterday and passed but I have to do the test after a 5 hour shift! Lucky me! I'll let you know how I get on!
That is a lot of "haha's"

Yes you should, weight training doesn't actually make you stronger, just bigger, which is also good as no males under 60kg can apply. Now you need to do cardio, running, sit ups and press ups, as long as you can do minimum for your age, you are fine.

Well i passed the pjft did the run in 11.41 didn't do a max effort but did a good effort but failed to convert to km as i work in mph so it was all a bit of a guess! But I did it... As with the pressups and situps he told me to stop when I hit the minimum... Well chuffed... Now waiting for prtc!
