My GCSE's are AWFUL!

I got, B in english C in maths, ICT, business studies and D in art.
When I say awful I mean I want to study architecture but got a D in art.

What can I do. I can't re-take art as the college has stopped doing it.

I've messed up..... what happened was I did the wrong thing in the exam and the now I'll never do architecture.

What university would look at me ???? seriously after messing up my GCSE art and getting a D????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Are you taking A level art or anything right now? I'm assuming you're in year 12...

I'm not doing A level art I was thinking of doing a foundation course in art and design. But would it cover the blemish of getting a D at GCSE? I'm really conscious of the fact that it will stand out like a sore thumb when applying to uni.

Your GCSEs are still good, the only issue is the D in Art which is so unfortunate.

My advice is do a Foundation Course or any other Art course you can. :smile: For example I know someone who got a C at Art GCSE who used to go to my school, and she finished A2 last year and got an A for A-Level. It does overlap/make up for it. She got into all the unis she applied to.

If you apply wisely then it shouldn't be a problem. :smile: I think you should really consider doing something relating to art to increase your chances, but I'd email unis you're interested in first and explain your situation before starting any art courses so you don't waste time.

I'll do that I'll be straight and just ask them; will it stop me from getting in?

Listen yeah, go out there and nail your A levels or BTEC, that's it.

You don't think the GCSE results would still look bad? I do I feel really self conscious about it.

Well I myself don't know personally but if it's any help she's doing Architecture at Kent. So you can go to decent universities yes, though obviously not anywhere like Cambridge. :smile:

If you want me to ask her for anymore further information I don't mind because I talk a lot to her.

Top lel, I probably messed up my GCSE's. But as long as you get into the six form or college course you want to, it's trivial worryin' about it. Just make sure you work your ass off next time.

GCSEs can contribute to making offers in some unis, but you have to take into account your A levels/personal statement and interview, which can often than not outweigh GCSEs.

Just email admissions tutors as they can give you an overview of that specific university's requirements and whether that 'D' in art will hinder your application or not. If I'm honest if you usually have another 'higher' qualification in the subject you did bad in for GCSE then the GCSE doesn't have a bad impact. IF your sixth/college lets you pick up AS art then I would do it- only if you think you can cope with the workload next to your current workload. I go to a school that specialises in art and many students who underperformed slightly at GCSE (D/C/B) have gone on to get A/A* in A level art.

I would *assume* so since they usually ask for a lot of A* and A grades at GCSE for any course, in this case specifically art since it's Architecture

Thanks I will work my ass off and then do an art course at foundation level.

Make sure you do it, don't just say it if you're going to do the same thing. It sounds corny but your future is important, don't mess it up.

I'm doing a level and after that I will do a foundation course in art. Hopefully I'll make up for my mistake in art and go to do architecture. Maybe not at a top university though perhaps if I get good grades perhaps I will.

Just wanted to add about my other post - if you get like A*AA/A*A*A in your A-Levels (specifically the A* in Art), explain how you did the wrong thing in your art GCSE exam when you apply to uni and do really good in your Foundation course - then a top 5 uni is definitely possible. It's just with these top 5 unis you never know.

Basically the more you do outside school/college/university hours towards your passion the better. Try to be creative and original.

Basically I suffer from a mental illness and when I messed up my work was good but totally unrelated to the exam question.. so I got a D. I was too stupid to apply for extenuating circumstances and so now I'm stuck with it.
