I always considered Oxbridge, Durham, Bristol, Newcastle, St Andrews and Edinburgh to be the big ones with rah and posh types but would places like University of Hertfordshire be up there too because of where it is although it isn't a top uni? I went to a "posh" public school (don't hate me :colondollar:) and the standards where people applied to were Newcastle, Bristol and Leeds.

It is literally RAH central.
Having done 3 Unis now and spent a substantial amount of time at a number of others, Bristol and Durham.
I go to St. Andrews and it's pretty posh but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. My flat has 8 people in it (4 from private schools and 4 from state schools) and we all get on really well, having chose to live together.

Where people went to school/socio-economic background should affect whether you become friends with them
Kent had a hell of a lot of "posh" students, there was generally a lot of privately educated home counties types who didn't get into their first choice Russell Group University...

I go to St Andrews as well, but in my experience it is a bad thing.
The vast majority of people I've met there are privileged, and many of those are obsessed with money and status.

I went to private school so perhaps I'm more immune to it, but I don't really get that at all.

I wouldn't want to hang out with people like that, so I don't. I think most people are lovely :smile:

Being a huge lefty I guess I'm quite sensitive to it, but I feel that the student body is relatively homogenous in relation to many other universities. I'm not saying there aren't a lot of lovely people, I just find it overly dominated by the same type of person.

Royal Agricultural University (Cirencester). It is the sort of place you will see men in salmon coloured trousers doing for a weekend shoot on Daddy's estate. It is the sort of place that will not allow you entry unless you own at least 2000 acres and many horses.

We're talking about mainstream universities though, not specialist small places. If we include them, then the Royal College/Academy of music and lots of other institutions would be mentioned as being very high up in the posh/rah count.

So are specialist universities not as important as mainstream ones?
This thread is of a genuine and rather considerable importance to me. Really; I'm hoping that, as I waiver my charms here and there, I pick up the attention of some hot, posh, middle-class totty.

My OUTRIGHT answer to the question of this thread would be King's College London, by the way...

You're completely missing the point. Specialist places, such as the one you referenced, aren't included because they don't have a substantial student body and don't apply to the vast majority of applicants but rather the minority of people who choose to go to them - mostly music students going to conservatoires. If you look at other tables officially done on this topic, they aren't usually included either.
