squares in double angle formulas

Hi there

Just a quick question: when using double angled formulas what happens to formulas when you have a square in it?

For example cos2x=2cos2x−1cos2x = 2cos^2x-1 and sin2x=2sinxcosxsin2x = 2sinxcosx

What do you do if you have cos22xcos^22x or sin22xsin^22x?

cos22xcos^22x = cos2x×cos2xcos2x \times cos2x, so you simply square the formula it equates to. For instance, cos22x=(2cos2x−1)2cos^22x = (2cos^2x-1)^2
