Yep, I know where I'll be living.
Hahaha, that's exactly where I'll be going. I see it as a week or so of arguing vs 3/4 years of misery - stakes aren't too bad.:bhangra:

Joke? The basic principle is that a woman should remain at home, and not go out except for necessary purposes. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“And stay in your houses, and do not display yourselves like that of the times of ignorance” - [Qur'an 33:33]

Although this is addressed to the wives of the Prophet (PBUH), it also applies to the believing women. It is only addressed to the wives of the Prophet (PBUH) because of their honour and status with the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), and because they are examples for the believing women.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:

“Woman is ‘awrah, and if she goes out, the shaytaan raises his hopes (of misguiding her). She is never closer to Allaah than when she stays in her house.” - Narrated by Ibn Hibbaan and Ibn Khuzaymah

And he said concerning a woman’s prayer in the mosque:

“Their houses are better for them.” - Narrated by Abu Dawood

(If you want specific details to the latter references, I can go fetch that for you)

After a brief search, I found a nice list of conditions in where women are permissed to leave the family home.

http://muslimmatters.org/2010/06/30/homely-homemaking-homebodies-why-the-quran-commands-muslim-women-stay-in-your-homes/

I hope this is of some benefit to you.

you don't really believe that do you? not trying to be offensive in any way but it does sound kind of insane to use a joke which is funny only because of how absurd it is and then try and make it sound like less of a joke and more of a moral teaching.

Jzk for this info even though i was aware of most of it already. But you have to remember that we live in a very different time and society to the prophet (saw). Women can and should have ambitions and go out there and work in a field they truly enjoy

I, for one would NEVER choose to be a full time housewife unless ofcourse I became pregnant and/or had toddlers. I'm not paying 9k a year to chill and live off my husband's earnings after uni. I know some girls who just want to get married and stay at home but thats their choice and they can do whatever makes them happy.

i think he was trying to point out that the Islamic teaching is that the woman should remain in the home regardless of context or society the woman lives in so his statement isn't wrong in regards to the teachings of the faith

Wait, so if women were told to stay at home, why was khadijah (a.s) such a successful business woman? Women in islam are encouraged to work hard and excel in the area of interest (must be halal obvs). There are also many hadiths where women at the time of the prophet (saw) were actually OUTSIDE the home.

If islam said women should remain in the home, wouldn't it be haram to do the opposite? :s-smilie:

im not advocating woman stay at home that would be ridiculous what i disagree with is people who claim to have religious convictions but pick and choose what they believe on the basis of how convenient it is for them with regards to their lifestyle.

its totally relevant because that dude just quoted the Qur'an yet most Muslims disagree that woman should stay at home. it shows some hypocrisy in most don't you agree? i don't want to come off as argumentative but i've had this same conversation with friends who believe things like that and call be a gal or a jal how ever you spell it for saying its a bit ridiculous and that woman should have the same freedom as dudes to do what they want

So in your opinion, women should stay at home and not work/socialise (again in a halal way) ? o.O

I completely agree! Islam teaches us that a wife must obey her husband; if your husband requests you stay at home, you must or you forsake yourself to sin. I used to think, gee, I'll never marry someone that would exercise their authority in such a way - I would identify such a deficiency in character before it got to that - but that's besides the point. Doesn't it irk others that they can pursue that avenue of control?
heyy guys whats cooking up in this thread???

is anyone awaiting a level results???... im sooo scared:eek:

Wait, when have we gotten into the topic of marriage?

First, he says women should stay at home beause the Qur'an apparently says so and now its all about whether or not the husband lets her?
