No problem! A lot of people here (at least who I've met) don't take life too seriously but are mature at the right times. You should be ready to socialise and network :smile: it's a great place if you're wanting to be independent ^#^

The "local crowd" tends to be expats - you find all sorts of people. The Emiratis are really nice too. They are very tolerant and surprisingly western when they want be.

There is a Catholic church in Dubai so if you are religious you won't miss out. Just rip up all the ideas that you have about the middle east - it is nothing like you imagine it.

There are brits; americans; dutch; lebanese; russians - all nations

yep and maybe even an irish lad too come 5 years! defo considering it if theres pharmacy jobs there with decent pay

lets hope I dont have to do too many exams to get there

Im not a pharmacist or pharmacy student, I just know a lot of people going into pharmacy and I've spoken to a number of pharmacists whilst on work experience.

No problem! Noticed you mentioned something about Ireland? There is a place here called 'Irish Village' which is an Irish pub, totally surreal here but it serves amazing food and you can drink in public there :smile:

yeah i'd defo go dubai, the mashaAllah very beautiful sisters and if you have a degree from the UK you're practically sorted.

i'm sure you could.

one thing that is very popular is becoming a teacher in a middle eastern country (mostly international schools). the pay is amazing, very little tax and they treat you like a king. i know someone teaching economics in Kuwait earning 80K a year no tax on that, they bought him a nice car and his rent is paid for.

dayyummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm i wanna be a teacher too and move to dubai but i dont think i want to drive everywhere when i'm there. how much do you think a personal chauffeur would cost?

haha no idea but i don't think it will be THAT much. maybe 20-40k?

yeah teaching is amazing imo, so rewarding and its easy as hell if you're passionate and know ur **** about a subject. for me teaching maths wud be so easy and the pay is amazing, bear in mind that the schools you'd be put into would be the top schools in the country where the parents of the kids r rich as hell.
I lived there between the years 2000 and December 2004 - I was really young at the time but it was really fun. I'll try to keep this short, but this is all I remember:

- Money is so, so damn easy
- Everything is so expensive
- English is incredibly widespread
- If you have a foreign passport, you would have been paid extra (not sure if this is the case thanks to Emiratisation)
- Very multicultural
- Can be very flashy. Look into other cities such as Abu Dhabi (I lived there for most of the time) or Sharjah - things may be slightly cheaper in the latter.
- There is always something to do!
- IT'S SO HOT DURING SUMMER GODDAMMIT. 50C is nothing out of the ordinary. 55C isn't uncommon either.
- Everything changes very fast. All of the above may have changed!
- Class-based racism is a thing. If you're Asian, you could face discrimination because of the labourers who are usually south Asian and thus lower class. Not always the case but be aware.

cos the pay is amazing cos they're private international schools.

the heat is a concern but everywhere has AC and with the money.. u can always go to somewhere else in the holidays. im guessing they have a long summer holidays (2months + im guessing).

i meant are all uk graduated put in private schools?
