This poll is closed

Are you happy for Tony Blayesirs new found wealth?

yes 33%
no67%
Total votes: 27
Its estimated he now sits on a personal fortune of over £100m, though he denies this figure. the majority of his income comes from 'brokering fees' made from arranging deals for international companies , mainly Banks, to get contracts, mainly in the Arab states, with which he has built up links during tenureship as PM and also as UN 'middle east envoy'

Are you happy that ex politicans the likes of tony blair are getting so wealthy, particularly as im sure many students and ex students voted for him some time ago?

As long as it keeps him off TV telling everyone how wonderful Mubarak and Iraq was then I am more than happy.
Good for him, I don't see why this is even an issue... It's just a man earning money... I may not like Tony Blair, or the Labour Party, but I still respect the fact that he has made this fortune. But he's still a prick.

Hang that ****ing war criminal, he isn't even close to being a true socialist like Tonny Ben was for the Labour party.
Business minded and greedy scum took over the labour party, it needs to go back to its working class roots.
I pity the bloke. He might have a lot of money but he's been rustled - he's an obvious self interested person and many people know this. His friends only associate with him because he has money. Why else would they bother with a bloke like this? Everyone knows what he is and who he is. He could be a trillionaire and that wouldn't change.

Yes he has money but it doesn't buy happiness. He can buy a yacht, party with his false friends and in the end he will still die a lonely and despised old man.

Give me real down to earth poor people over a person like that any day of the week.

Of course i am, im a capitalist who wants people to succeed. Granted its not exactly rags to riches but after a decade of doing a very difficult job, been villified by the press and dealing with the backstabbing bafoon i hope hes enjoying himself.

Id suggest that people are far too cynical, the post above being a prime example.

Yes but a very specific signal to all PMs

Anti Saddam Hussein arab countries have given millions to blair soley for his role in iraq. I expect cameron to make a similar payday for getting rid of Gaddafi
I am really glad we now never need to see his wife.

most of the arab countries were supporters of saddam actually, it was iran that was his enemy
Quite frankly, I couldn't really care either way. He is allowed to use whatever attributes he has to make a fortune in the capitalist system like everybody else.

I think he was a decent PM. They made the Immigration problem worse, and government spending got out of hand, so he was no Thatcher, but he had some big successes, strengthening our relationship with the USA, the Ireland agreement and the minimum wage. People need to get over the Iraq war to be honest, yes we messed up, but you're not going to get every intervention right. It's right that the West intervene where required.

you obviously have no clue about the region so dont embarrass yourself, saudi arabia bank rolled saddam for years .

and a job is a job, regardles of who you build loyalty with - the head of the Unite Union is on close to £200,000 pa on salary package. Blair simply weasled his way into the upper end of the renumeration scale

Except this isnt a free market system its crony capitalism and using inside knowledge of govt .
He blatantly lied to parl for his own naive undertakings given to Bush against the advice of every career diplomat at the FO and had no clue on how to actually run a govt policies based on media headlines.

Strengthening with US ? When was it ever under threat ? Not like blair had any influence wasnt able to get steel duties removed or protect extradition rights or privacy of british subjects.

In no sense is he 'just a man earning money'. Everything has flowed from his role as leader of the Labour Party and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. I know I'm asking a lot in his case (and that of his wife), but perhaps he should consider for a moment doing the decent thing and stopping his money grabbing exploitation of those roles and stop working in the cynical and deceitful way he does, funneling advantage to global banks and the arms dealers and oil barons who stand behind the deals he makes?

Just a thought.
I'm neither happy nor sad. If people want to pay him that is their prerogative.

Lol your exposing your own limited knowledge of the region. I dont even care what you post because I have seen confessions by arab monarchies so nothing a kid posts on TSR will change that.

So what ?? The Interests and agenda of Unite are largely not in open conflict with the Interests of the majority of british people.

If former PM works for a union or becomes chancellor of university of NGO thats fine, but when he starts working for banks that get bailouts or involved in City scandals or an industry trying its best to stop new regulation vital to economy in damages the office of PM and dangerous for democracy creating a revolving door.
