Its sad that the same very kid Pm'd me depressed, upset how his life choices have alienated him for having a social life and having no female relationships. He was that depressed i actually felt for him, he felt all alone. After the mishaps you cause, his dreams and aspirations destroyed. He was a kid with everything ahead of him, he even wanted a perfect 10 girl, the type of dream girl once he made his money. Now the payday loans and the job im the bookie is all he has. Im trying to stop people from falling in the same trap. He was pleading to me to show him how to hold a conversation with a girl, i was seriously like wtf.

Stay on topic.

Anyway, if you didn't read what I wrote in a post earlier, probably due to poor reading comprehension, I explicitly stated that you should not do a start up of any nature if you are unemployed.

I have a job. This is a side venture for me.

Oo...I was like wtf looking at some of these positions on a sales trading floor, fluent in a foreign language - no chance. No way i can learn Russian to a decent level, this was like societe generale, people like fathobbit are lazy. If i wanted that job i would have gone out and learnt Russian at my own expense. Competition for the best is always going to be fierce, people like him aren't willing to rise up to the challenge, but complain.

People who complain totally ignore the fact that the competition is insane and blame factors such as UCAS points systems firms have, which tbh, are the bare minimum. They want the best candidates according to their criteria, it is fair enough. In the same way, British people can complain that foreign graduates are taking their jobs. But, again, the company has a right to hire the best no matter where the candidate is from. Because the competition is globalized, the bar is put much higher. To the extent that complaining about things such as UCAS points seems a bit trivial really. Their interest is in finding the people they feel will offer them the best chance of making the most money. And evidently... these big corporations/banks have a good track record of knowing how to run their businesses don't you think?

But at the same time your brother Jalebi is depressed because he goes to BCU, he feels his life is gone. He is missing any form of female interaction, just through getting bad Alevels and going to a bad uni. There is no substitute for hardwork.

I have never once discouraged people from getting the best possible marks, or going to the best universities.

Stop fabricating ****.

You guys put so much emphasis on UCAS points and ****, it is so disturbing. When a lot of these companies have people working there that have degrees from polys, like you experienced recently.

Most jobs outside a few do now require excellent academia to be able to do it. Take sloanes job, he uses SPSS, it does most of the hardcore calculations for him.

For those with a UCAS points fetish go and become an academic.

U did tell the kid about this whole dream of yours and it rubbed off he looked up to u and he thought i was trolling him. He apologised and now he realises you were giving him bad advice.
Original post by SloaneRanger
Agreed, but then you get people like fathobbit telling people that going to lesser institions for apparently great teaching is the solution to making big £££.

If I couldn't get into a top 20 uni I wouldn't even bother going. It's just better to work retail or something, save up and start your own business or get into a school leavers accountancy role.

Nerd2 has no aspirations to work in IT, so it does not apply to him.

I told him to resit his ALs and try and get into the best unis because he wants to be an economist.

You are really annoying me by taking threads of tangent by bringing him up. You are also twisting the truth to try and suit your own argument.

True but even then you still need reasonably good A-Levels people like fathobbit, feel retsking to meet the entry requirements are a waste of time if youve been reading.

No, you just work in smaller firms, and after a few years industry experience try and break into bigger ones as an experienced hire. A few of my friends did this.

Some corporates like IBM/Siemans do not stipulate UCAS points as a requirement. Others have a 2.2 cut off point.

I honestly cant be arsed to have this argument with you.

I will let you people with the UCAS points fettish live in your own little planet.

Tom Ford is struggling like **** with perfect grades, and has had people picked ahead of him who went to poorer unis etc. Says it all.

You got him into BIrmingham "City" telling him remember when i said spend money in getting a tutor at MPW. You told him not to waste money, he get letts revision guides and got a bad grade, again.

Btw he was looking for direction, he was just interested in social mobility and making money so he can go up it. As soon as you said millions he listened to you.

You have been banging on in this thread how conforming to get great grades and how universities will even look at primary school grades etc. Moaning about elitism rather then trying to better yourself by retaking exams, that is the facts. Btw there is always going to be unemployment, but why not give yourself the best chance to get a good job. No guarantees in life.

I have not spoken to him for 2 years. I dont know wtf is going on with him.

Stop blaming me for things I had no direct influence with. Looks like you are trying to get people to look at me as a guy who talks ****. Manipulative behaviour on your part

We had a 4 man chat on FB just 2 months ago, i can still bring up the chat log....

I even screenshot some of the stuff to him to rub it in after he listened to you.

You can't give someone with no life experience that kind of advice. He takes everything to heart.

With all due respect to the companies you are thinking of, they are nowhere near top companies and this is reflected in their lack of a UCAS points requirement. The UCAS points requirement is the bare minimum. Then comes skills, extra languages req's as already mentioned and even down to the module marks one got in university. It is by and large a merit based thing.

The UCAS points 'fetish' is not jut an academic thing, just look on the Milkround.com website. Vast majority of companies there want at least ABB. These are the firms we are prioritising, multinational corps/banks.

And when did I say that you shouldn't work hard to obtain the best grades possible.

All I was doing, was marely pointing out that the current selection process is ****.

For example, I am not the smartest guy academically in the world, I did not go to Oxford. But I have real business acumen which can benefit a corporate company if I had worked for one. I can think outside the box. But they wouldn't know that, because my app will be filtered out at the app stage for those corporates that have a Primary school/GCSE/UCAS point cut off

So your earlier comments about hiring the best is subjective. At the end of the day, it's not about grades, it's about making money - in this case helping a corporate make money.

Yeah BA, is no way a creme de la creme company and never will be. Places what were talking above are. Only thing classy is the dolled up air hostesses.

I can't talk for other fields.

But if IBM, a blue chip can still do well (recently have a business partnership with Apple) and not ask for UCAS points. That says it all.

The fact is you are academically overqualified for most grad jobs.

If you want something very academically intensive, I have news for you - become an academic.

HR have no excuse to be lazy with their recruitment, unless they want a certain type of person working for them. Generally those who have had the best starts in life.
