Hi! My questions are a bit of a long shot, so i understand if you cant answer them, as they are probably not in your area of expertise! Il ask anyway though! im going into A2 a year behind now, Had to redo AS as my first sixth form i went gave me no support for dyslexia, which really sucked! Two things, is there a good media department at Leicester? And whats the support for dyslexia like? Thanks for the help in advance

Hello! I have a few friends doing media and they seem to be enjoying it a lot! Also, they seem to be have many opportunities outside the academic field - I have friends who are part of LUSH radio and they've been on the radio talk shows a few times hosting different themes which was pretty coool! Also a friend in the Ripple which is the uni's newspaper. I feel like with Media and communications there are sooo many great opportunities at leicester because well our students union is pretty great (although I'm probably bias!).

As for dyslexia support - I know there is an access ability centre that helps with follow up assessments and helps out with applications for the disabled student's allowance. Also, each department has it's own access ability tutor so you can go to that person to talk about anything dyslexia related. Although that's as far as my knowledge goes unfortunately! Heres the page if you want to read on about it! http://www2.le.ac.uk/offices/ssds/accessability

Best of luck with everything!!! xx
Thanks alot will do! x

Hello,

I am hoping to do BSc psychology at Leicester. I just wondered what sort of assessment methods are used for psychology? I hated the style of exams we did at A Level where you essential memorise 30 essays for only 3 to come up. I just wondered how often there are written exams and what they're structured like? And what other assessment methods are used and like how often?

Sorry for all the questions, just curious

Thank you!

Hi! Okay so for the first year, all psychology exams (both Jan and May exams) are multiple choice questions  Although for 2nd and 3rd years it's essay questions. I'm not too sure what type of questions they'll be, however I've been told that the essays we write during the semester will be a great practice for the essay type questions in the upcoming exams. Basically throughout the year we have graded practical reports and essays to do and they both help lot. If you want to know more about them feel free to message me and I'll give you an insight on what type of essay titles and reports I had to do this year  Exams occur twice a year and I had 4 exams in Jan (you should too) and 4 in May (although I think yours would only be 3 since you're doing single psych).

Hi, hope you enjoyed your first year! I am looking to do either psychology or psychology and sociology at Leicester next year! I was just wondering how you and others have found the course as a whole? and what the step from A2 to uni was like - does studying psychology at A Level help? I haven't studied biology and have heard some people say that this can be a disadvantage, do you know if that is the case? How many students do the psychology and sociology degree as I understand that there aren't that many places available. Thanks for your help x

Hello there! Thanks, I really did enjoy first year  At first I disliked sociology as I found it way too vague, however throughout the year I understood the concepts more and as of now I find it soooo interesting!! Because there are so many themes and topics covered in sociology, I feel there are more opportunities in the future eg, this year I covered media, capitalism, crime and globalisation just to name a few.

Psychology is great! It's not too science orientated if you decide to take psych and soc because you don't do one of the biological/cognitive modules. Although there definitely is science to it as psychology is considered a science haha but it really hasn't been too bad (yet!) so don't worry about that.

I did the IB diploma instead of A-levels and studied Psychology and Biology which helped to a certain extent, but honestly there are sooo many people in my lectures who have never taken psychology before, not even for gcses!

There are around 200 places available for the all Psychology degrees, but the majority are single psychology students. I reckon there are about 40 Psych and Soc students in my year. But I'm not entirely sure!

If you want to know more about the practical reports/essays and exams we do throughout the year just message me and I'll be happy to let you know about them too!! xx

Haha I don't think I do I'm afraid!
Hi! Just wondering if you knew anything about the modern languages department? Like how people have found the teaching and the courses as a whole. Oh, and do you know anything about that 3 week summer school for language students at the end of 1st year? Thank you x
