I think there was a mistake with my a level grade?

For psychology aqa as unit 1 I got 40 marks out of 72, which was said to be an E. And for unit 2 I got 52 marks which is a D. However after checking last years grade boundaries, I would've gotten at least a B.
Instead I got an E.
Could the grade boundaries possibly gotten this high in one year?

You should check the boundaries for this year, which have now been published. Grade boundaries can fluctuate quite dramatically year on year.
Here's the AQA June 2014 Grade Boundaries. It seems there may have been a mistake with Unit 2. According to this year's boundaries 52 should have got you an A? I'd say contact your teacher about this - they should be able to get a review of your marks done.

You are worth a lot more than the grades you got on a piece of paper.

Always Remember "Winners are too busy to be sad, to positive to be doubtful, to optimistic to be fearful, and too determined to be defeated."

Are you sure you didn't get 40 UMS, as opposed to 40 marks?

I think that is the case because at least my results sheet gave UMS marks not raw marks.
