Private Housing at Portsmouth as First Year- Housing Hunting Help!

Unfortunately I didn't get into firm offer, so I'm going to Portsmouth as my insurance. However this now means I can't into halls, so I'll have to go into a house or flat share...I literally have no clue where to start!
I've looked on the university accommodation website (http://www.portsmouthstudentpad.co.uk/Students) and found some really good accommodation at a reasonable rate. But I'd still like to make sure I end up with at least some first years in the same position as me, so I don't miss out, and don't want to sign up to a house where I'm going to end up living with a bunch of people I don't get on with!

Any help is really appreciated.
