What were your years results like?

Not great, the worst in years I believe (and in a downward trend for the school - though I doubt today's were continuing that trend).

Hmm maybe our year as a whole was a collective blip

Am I the only one who gets pissed off by the amount of people wanting to remark? as if they're entitled to next grade because they were a few off
Original post by NinjaPandaa
the sad thing was we were made to feel like we let the school down a bit because none of got all a*s, 5 of us got 9A*s and an A but that wasn't really good enough aha

yeah the year below have done well tbh, I haven't really seen any of them who are unhappy with their results (unsurprisingly)

Sometimes schools are ridiculous in the way they put down pupils who have actually done really well.
Hey guys, new to this forum

Quick question: For my results i got: B in English Literature, C in Drama and Theatre Studies, D in Biology and a B for A2 Spanish. Do you think I could get into Reading University (or would they even consider me) to study English and Theatre with these grades? They want ABB..
Thanks!

I hadn't even heard of remarking before TSR, and personally I'd feel like I was cheating if I ever asked for a remark... but each to their own.

No, especially when some of them expect to go from D's to A's

I mean fair enough in essay subjects, where it comes down a bit to the marker's interpretation. But in Maths and the Sciences, what is the point really? It's a waste of money.

 if it's unexpected fair enough, but not when they think, I'm 1 mark off, I should remark.

I agree, I can understand because they're so close but I don't like how they feel entitled to the next grade. If you were entitled to it you would have got it!!!

I don't know what the big deal about GCSEs are. I thought they were a waste of time and pretty damn easy. And I don't really understand why some universities look at them closely. Maybe they think it's a way of quickly identifying the people who have been 'smart' and/or 'hard working', even before 6th form courses? :dontknow: If I was an admissions tutor I really wouldn't care about them...

There was a girl who did IB a few years ago at my school, and she was 1 mark off the next grade boundary in all 6 of her subjects

That would be so frustrating!

Such a waste of money too...

I don't think remarks should exist, but I think they'd have to ensure everything is marked properly.

Hmmmm... I think it is a way to show who was willing to waste their time revising for them. If only it came with a tag which revealed how many hours of revision you did...

 but that shows she's consistently not good enough for that next one.

Exactly. Being one mark off (especially at GCSE) is annoying, but it's not the end of the world...

They're the key to the next door, but that's about it. (Though I suppose they get some status from being the highest level qualification that pretty much everyone has.)

Honestly, for some people, it would have been better to do more things like Admaths. When you get a sea of people who can get straight A*s/As, that just says they weren't really being challenged enough.

2 subjects I did that I am pretty sure are absolutely useless to me now are History and RS. I still do English Lit so T_T
But yeah, instead of History and RS, I could have done extra maths/science, as I knew my 6th form subjects would be mathsy/scientific.

I already think the education system at KS4-5 isn't broad enough so I can't agree with that second paragraph.

I wish I could have done Ad Maths or something

Italian
German
Sociology

Does it need to be that broad though? I do 6(.5) subjects and people consider that broad. I essentially specialise in 3 of them, but study the other 3 in less depth. I did like 11 GCSEs which I thought was already pretty broad. I would still have considered 9 still broad. It was a renaissance education.

I have not used any skill at all from History/RS ever since finishing them. In GCSE RS you were actually allowed to use ****ty hypothetical examples that you made just to back up your argument, which is awful practice. For someone like me, History was too subjective, and I didn't see the point in learnings dates and evaluating historical events.

Admaths was basically like C1
It had linear programming though which is S1 I think? Either way, it was basically a fair bit of As Maths - which you were already doing last year I think?
