(Sorry I take forever to respond I'm the worst
)
I've changed my EPQ idea completely and haven't even thought of a new title. I was really keen on doing it but I think I underestimated the time it would take. Mine was originally going to be on bovine tuberculosis as I know a **** tonne of vets and farmers. I can also speak to vet students and have a couple of lecture slides that they've sent me, so I thought that that would be an easy yet relevant topic. I later decided that I'd rather do it on prion diseases as they're interesting as ****, but I know a lot less about them and can't decide on a starting point.
Half term is the last week of October, so that course will give you a week off of school. If you're doing astrophysics as well I can speak to my friend and ask what she thought of her one if you want
I considered doing one of them, but by the time they were open for applications I already had stuff booked for summer. My head of year and various other people encouraged me to apply, but in a way I'm glad I didn't. I think organising my own placements was easier, plus a couple of places that I went to don't even take work experience, I just managed to get my foot in the door because of people that I know
I got to attend a lecture by somebody who's been one of Time's list of the 100 most influential people, which was brilliant
Did you ever do your Nuffield thing, by the way? A friend of mine (a future medic) did hers on genetic engineering with mice, but a different friend who wants to go into physics never got her placement organised, despite filling in all of the paperwork she needed to do and repeatedly contacting her co-ordinator to see if something had come up
I hate sitting around doing nothing, but I spend too many days like that
I find myself in better moods when I've been outside all day, so I try to get out when I can. In addition, jobs in the sector that I want to work in understandably tend to rely less on qualifications and more on actual experience (less so with medical work obviously, but animal work in general), so now's a good chance to do as much as possible while I still have time.
To be quite honest I think the Scottish independence thing is a load of hype drummed up by Mr. Salmond
. The media wants to give a balanced view, but not a single one of the Scottish people that I've spoken to have been in favour of separating. From a selfish point of view, the only reason that I care is because Edinburgh is one of my university choices, so I'd prefer if they didn't start pissing about right now, but anybody can see that Scotland won't be better of independent.
