Oh **** I'd totally forgotten the EPQ  I've decided to abandon it honestly; I have no idea what to do for it.

The course starts September 29, I don't know if that's the half-term but while I'm going on an astrophysics course, there are like 10 other courses on different weeks so it's not guaranteed to be in the break. All but one of my further maths buddies are going on different courses, they all found their acceptance letters before me and qualified for social mobility stuff (low income, first generation uni students, etc.) so I was worried I wouldn't get a place

You're so buuusy. I'm jealous of you biological types

I don't reckon UKIP will get too big in the general elections, their being first-past-the-post and all, but I'm worried about the independence vote; it could go either way. I'd prefer the planet not become more pointlessly fragmented.

(Sorry I take forever to respond I'm the worst  )

I've changed my EPQ idea completely and haven't even thought of a new title. I was really keen on doing it but I think I underestimated the time it would take. Mine was originally going to be on bovine tuberculosis as I know a **** tonne of vets and farmers. I can also speak to vet students and have a couple of lecture slides that they've sent me, so I thought that that would be an easy yet relevant topic. I later decided that I'd rather do it on prion diseases as they're interesting as ****, but I know a lot less about them and can't decide on a starting point.

Half term is the last week of October, so that course will give you a week off of school. If you're doing astrophysics as well I can speak to my friend and ask what she thought of her one if you want  I considered doing one of them, but by the time they were open for applications I already had stuff booked for summer. My head of year and various other people encouraged me to apply, but in a way I'm glad I didn't. I think organising my own placements was easier, plus a couple of places that I went to don't even take work experience, I just managed to get my foot in the door because of people that I know :colone: I got to attend a lecture by somebody who's been one of Time's list of the 100 most influential people, which was brilliant  Did you ever do your Nuffield thing, by the way? A friend of mine (a future medic) did hers on genetic engineering with mice, but a different friend who wants to go into physics never got her placement organised, despite filling in all of the paperwork she needed to do and repeatedly contacting her co-ordinator to see if something had come up :frown:

I hate sitting around doing nothing, but I spend too many days like that  I find myself in better moods when I've been outside all day, so I try to get out when I can. In addition, jobs in the sector that I want to work in understandably tend to rely less on qualifications and more on actual experience (less so with medical work obviously, but animal work in general), so now's a good chance to do as much as possible while I still have time.

To be quite honest I think the Scottish independence thing is a load of hype drummed up by Mr. Salmond . The media wants to give a balanced view, but not a single one of the Scottish people that I've spoken to have been in favour of separating. From a selfish point of view, the only reason that I care is because Edinburgh is one of my university choices, so I'd prefer if they didn't start pissing about right now, but anybody can see that Scotland won't be better of independent.

Yeah, quite a few  Techno, Bude, sarahiscool, Elm Tree, Ninjapandaa, Red Fox. I'm pretty sure that at least some of those joined in year 10, if not early year 11

(I just woke up, so you're pretty well-timed actually )

I'm opposed to independence from a more ideological perspective; global socialism! world government! etc etc.

You don't need to ask your friend, but thanks  I'm fairly confident it will be great, I have teachers who have been on one of their courses (it's an old institution). I didn't get accepted for Nuffield :emo: but wow, fail from your friend's co-ordinator. They at least could have told her there was no physics.

You totally should have applied  There was no application process pretty much, you just gave your details and left your teachers to tell them if you were going to get A*s at A2 (which I suppose is now a lie from my teacher; I'll still get an A*, but they have no reason to think so). It was literally a single checkbox for them :mmm:

Prions are super cool sounding, even for someone with no grounding in biology. Any subject I would want to do is too advanced to do well, so I just sort of...didn't.

Hell of a clique you got there. Is there a membership fee?
I feel old reading this.

But then I realize I have to decide about my life, and I am like " Guys, I am too young for this!".
Anyone else already tired of school when it hasn't even started? I hope it's not just me.

Tbf, I consider you one of *the* members along with some others

The clique was just from years ago when we did stupid tinychat stuff

Back to 6th Form on Wednesday. Wouldn't be too bad but I'm working on Monday and Tuesday, so today I have to write an essay, revise for an S1 mock and finish reading the book that is the basis for my EPQ. Not like I've known about all of the above since the start of June... :colondollar:
Packing :woo:
wow ok I have 4 frees a week this year (will be 6 after ToK finishes though)

some of my friends have 13 frees a week, like wtf

one of them has a triple free on Monday, then a quadruple free on Wednesday pls no wow

Last year, I had a quadruple free, then further maths last, and school policy means I have to come in at half past 8. We can leave early, but can't come in late... It actually kinda sucked at the start...

My school has a policy that only Year 13s can come in late if they have morning frees. :colonhash:

Then again, it didn't bother me too much last year. I don't like coming in late because it feels pointless to show up at 1pm just to stay for 2 hours of lessons. I need to wake up early so it feels like my day has some point to it!

Also, another odd thing... My school is now deciding to switch to two-week timetables, meaning our lessons are spread over two weeks rather than one. I've yet to see how this works since we haven't been shown our actual timetables yet, but it sounds bloody confusing.

Ahh that's annoying! Last year I had 3 one week (one afternoon) then 5 the next (2 mon, 2 tues) which is annoying since i'd just do hw at the weekend, but then as I got into it realised it meant I didn't have to do it at the weekend haha
I think I got one of the worst timetables but my friend had a quadruple free on a friday... the only thing she had to come in for was tutorial... the most pointless 'lesson' ever!

Well, tell me how it goes :h: . It sounds like a pretty well established course so I hope it's good for ya :h: And yeah, she was pretty pissed off. She wouldn't have minded if she'd just been told that there was nothing available, but the co-ordinator kept telling her that it was still being arranged (right up to a week before her placement should have started), so she couldn't even organise her own placement in case there was a clash.

Is it possible to do it next summer, or is it only for year 12s? To be honest I'll probably be working all of next summer just to earn enough to live on during my first year (my grant and loan won't even cover accomodation if I get into one in London :cane: )

Haha yeah my vet (awesome dude) bought them up one day out of the blue. I was just there like 'whaaaaaaaaat' for the whole explanation

See, sometimes I think I'm immature and stupid, but at least I'm not pathetic enough to use that word. Shut the **** up.

We've always had a 2 week timetable  it works and I find it's nice that it's not the same every week like you go through the pattern that it's week 1 etc.

Hmm, I guess so. I'm sure I'll get the hang of it, but I've been so used to the same system since Year 7 that it seems weird to do this just for one year. :colondollar:
