It barely works anywhere. Even Barcelona only get away with it because they have about 80% possession every game, so their defense is rarely tested. If your players don't suit it, don't play it. Why risk dropping further than 7th on a system you don't need to play? People call Wenger stubborn in his old age, but Van Gaal is on a whole new level.

It rarely works because there's no wing backs around, very few players can play that role and if they're not good enough you have no width going forward and/or your CBs get pulled all over the place trying to cover for where the full back would be. But there's nothing special about the PL that would mean it couldn't work if you did have the players. It works for Juve but that's about it.

Our defence has been underrated (although it isn't great). A lot of the problem is they have no protection, so a DM will go a long way to fixing that, look at yesterday we had Fletcher pretty much on his own covering the back 3. Not sure Blind is the answer but he may be the best we get for that.


If United can get the attack running, they should be fine. Defence may be bad but Liverpool made up for that by out scoring the opposition. Di Maria, Mata, Rooney and RvP should be enough firepower to blow away the small teams.

Arsenal need a quality striker to challenge for the title. Man City have Aguero and Dzeko, Chelsea have Costa, Liverpool had Sturridge and Suarez last season. Problems atm seems to be with the formation (particularly midfield) but even if they sort that out, how can they compete with Chelsea and Man City?

IIRC they're changing it so a maximum of five teams from a single league can now qualify. So if a team were to finish outside the top four but win the EL or CL they would qualify in addition to the top four and not take someone's spot. However, on the off chance a team won the CL and finished outside the top four and another team from the same league won the EL and also finished outside the top four then fourth place would lose their spot - ensuring there was only a maximum of five teams in the CL from one league.
