Hi, Congratulations on passing the online tests! I've also applied for the analytical stream (Economist) which scheme(s) you applying for?

Same, I've also applied for the analytical stream. Do you know how long we have to wait to find out if our application was successful?

Thanks, I've applied for the statistician and operational research schemes. I'm still 'awaiting results' for the statistician scheme though. I imagine I'll be waiting until October now though to find out if I've passed to the next stage for that one though.

Are the statistician AC's later on? At least your operational research one is progressing quickly

I think it depends which scheme within analytical you've applied for. It took a couple of days for me (Economist one) to hear that I'd passed the application sift stage but I think some people on here have had a longer wait. If you've applied for a different scheme check when the assessment centre is for it and then you'll have an idea of the absolute latest they could let you know.

Hi all,

Just about to do the online selection tests and currently practising numerical like crazy.
(Really hoping this does not breach any rules - doesn't seem to be the case from what I've read on the FS website)
I just can't seem to work out how to get a solution to the following question. I have a fair idea of how to work out ratios - but the numbers involved are so large that they can't possibly expect you to sit there and work out all the common factors to boil the two down to a simple ratio. Most things I try and divide the numbers down to reduce them result in numbers with decimals, and not whole numbers. Maybe my whole approach to the question is wrong.

Here's a link to the screenshot. http://www.clipular.com/c/5462960931602432.png?k=3cwavE8eJBBg2jWUXx97z0W6M-A
FYI from my calculations I'm trying to reduce 1359:2162 (year 1 A-B difference: year 2 A-B difference) to a simpler ratio.

Apologies to those who are not expecting to be asked for maths lessons :albertein:

1359:2162 can also be expressed as 63% (rounding up). I.e., if the ratio between the two figures is 1359:2162, then the first figure is about 63% of the second. Of the five options 3:5 (60%) comes closest to that, so B is the answer.

You could also just eyeball it and say that 1359:2162 looks a lot like 1400:2100, or 2:3, and that 3:5 is the best approximation of that among the options.

I think you were overcomplicating it.

Thanks! The economist dates were just on the GES website but can't find OR's on their equivalent page which is a bit weird but I've found that the open days are the 27th October and 6th November (for OR) so the AC should be sometime in November (found this on the fast stream login bit under maps and forms then OR AC)

Ah I saw that too! thank you for checking though!

Anyone for GSS that has got through to the application form? Or just anyone for GSS at all?

I've just been glancing through last years thread and noticed that someone mentioned that those on the analytical stream do not have to do the e-tray. Why would it be different this year? The E-tray appears on my application timeline for both the GSS and GORS.

Does anyone from last year/previous years know for definite that the analytical stream has never had to do the e-tray before?

Yep it is true that in previous years analytical streams did not have to do the e-tray and they do this year :frown: It seems unfair to add another stage to the analytical one especially as we have to do our specialist AC as well. The Fast stream is definitely the most lengthy application process I've done!
Anyone applied for the commercial/finance fast stream?!
hi everyone

I failed last year, but trying again this year... hopefully more succesfully!
Application sent. Now to forget about it and hope for a good result!

Good luck! I'm just about to send mine too.
Any idea when we get the initial sift results?

For analytical streams my bet is that they'll wait till the end of registration period, i.e. 30 September
I have added two schemes to my application i.e. Generalist in addition to Digital and Technology Fast Streams. I completed online selection tests, and now waiting for the results. Verbal reasoning was actually resolute, as you can't, intermittently, decide precisely with no time to reassess.

Candidates who completed the GFS online selection tests and now waiting for their results:

Do you have any news on your result?
Today, before the date is changed!

No result here. They said late September -- October, so I imagine they'll start coming in at some point over the next couple of weeks.

In previous years, you had to do an exercise that was taken from e-tray at your analytical assessment centre. The e-tray has a part that's answering emails, how would you respond to these situations, and another part that involves a lot of reading material and having to put together a briefing on it. This second part is quite full on as it's tight for time and is tiring. They used to take this second part from e-tray and tag it on to the analytical assessment centres which was a bit of a killer getting hit by that after a full session of analytical assessment exercises.

So now that part has been removed from the analytical assessment centres and instead everyone has to do e-tray. Whilst it means you have to do the other part of e-tray as well, it does break it in to two sessions and so stops the usual complaint from people at analytical centres that the extra exercise was too much - they didn't give you much warning about it either, when I did EAC there was just a line in the invite saying 'there will be an additional non-economics exercise that you don't need to prepare for' so I just thought fine it's probably some mickey mouse thing, and that was by far the hardest part of the day!
