Student Protesters storm Hong Kong Government HQ

Has anyone been seen the stories of recent protests in Hong Kong?

From what I have been told and what I have read it seems it all started recently with Mainland China deciding that only 'approved' candidates could run for election for HK's chief executive position. Obviously this is seen as a thinly veiled attempt to keep pro Beijing polititians in control of HK and has angered supporters of democracy.

When it was arranged for Britain to return Hong Kong to Chinese sovereignty it was agreed China would allow Hong Kong autonomy in civil matters for at least 50 years, this is clearly political meddling and a breach of the political rights of the people of Hong Kong.



A short time ago around a hundred protesters stormed the Government HQ, protesters have been set on by riot police, with pepper spray and riot gear. As I understand it, remainants of those that stormed the HQ are now encircled by riot police inside the HQ building.

Originally it was only was only some action by the student protesters, but the government was being ignorant, causing the protest grew into an action named "occupy central". It is a peaceful protest action by the citizen who are unarmed, but the latest situation is - at around 18:00 in Hong Kong time, the police used Tear gas grenade to those unarmed citizens.

I was very shocked as the police are allowed to use such high degree of force against those citizens who are clearly harmless. And I would like to raise the attention from the globe, and give a justified results to my fellow citizens in this fight against this dictatorship.

Please, leave a comment on your ideas and please give us a hand in spreading the news.

You're shocked by police brutality in China? It's an awful situation, but I'm not surprised by the police response. China hardly has a reputation of being kind to protesters.

Still, it is an unjustified action, using extreme forces on unarmed citizens. And I feel this kind of actions should be seen by the whole world, because I believe, any countries with the basic degree of democracy will not tolerant these kind of violence.
A peaceful protestation has to become ugly by the Government. Saddening!

Clearly the police is all dressed up with equipment whereas simply the locals a goggle and maybe a raincoat.

Well, it's under China's control and it won't hesitate to use this kind of force. At least they're not using lethal weapons. That's what my mum says and she lives in HK .-....

Feel lucky I didn't go to HK to live when I was 6.

I am not bagging for any of you to act. I am trying to let people know these brutal actions are happening in Hong Kong at the moment. I am trying to get more people to give awareness of the situation. No matter this protest carried out by my fellow citizens succeed or not, I hope this event will be remembered by everyone on this planet, unlike the event happened in China back in 1964.

This is not entirely true. The reason why they said the "one country two systems" can be maintain for 50 years is because Deng Xiaoping was hoping China can catch up with Hong Kong in terms in democratic level within 50 years. But obviously, the China government now is nowhere up to par.
One of my friends at the protest tells me the police have been deploying tear gas on first aid stations, obviously this is an impartial source, but I see no reason for my friend to lie to me.

edit to add, they have added armed police to the scene, wasn't sure at first, since shotguns can fire tear gas, but the bloke in the middle there has an M16 (or a lookalike).

I wonder what my Spanish teacher is thinking about the current situation in Hong Kong.
He lives there by the way..
A great shame that we never retained enough military might to force an extended lease.
Every mass protest I've seen in my life has ended in pepper spray and tear gas, yes that includes St Fergusen in the USA the most democratic country on earth and the likes of BERSIH.

Its a standard SOP all over the world.

Be glad it didnt end like this.
