History essay question!

So essentially I got set some Medicine through time questions to do, they were GCSE and I found them, well a bit basic to be honest (I hate feeling like I'm bragging) :frown: .

Anyway, I still adore History, have made all my flashcards for the year, read ahead, written up all my notes etc. etc. but have nothing to do.

I really want to do something History related however. My thoughts were to write some more essays! However, I don't really want to do more snoozefest GCSE ones.

So, I was thinking about doing an A-Level style question like this:


Preparation for Civil War, 1450-55
(a)
How is the outbreak of Cade’s rebellion in 1450 best explained?
[25]
[Explaining ideas, attitudes and beliefs]

(b)
Why did rival groups of nobles resort to armed conflict at St.Albans in 1455?

[25]




But I haven't actually studied these topics and it would be a bit useless to my actual overall revision.

That's why I'm asking, could someone please do me the kind favour of creating an A-Level style question, but about Ancient Medicine?

We're doing ancient medicine at the moment (e.g. Prehistoric, Egyptian, Greek, Roman) If you PM me your email i'll send you my notes.

• How far did new ideas and treatments affect the majority of the population?
• What ideas did people have about the causes and treatment of illness and injuries?

Medicine in prehistoric times:

• its values and its problems
• beliefs in spirits and the treatments used
by medicine men

I can set plenty on the medieval/renaissance/modern periods of the course, but am struggling with the ancient section

The only one i can think of is : 'Galen's ideas had the greatest impact upon the development of ancient medicine' assess the validity of this claim

why are you being set gcse questions?

medicine through time sounds like the most boring syllabus ever.

I'm a GCSE student.

It's more interesting than you expect, actually.
To what extent was religion significant in the development of ancient health practices?

I'd probably compare and contrast different civilisations. Another question might be, Greek medical practice was more concerned with appeasing the gods, rather than improving health. Discuss.

Religion and health is a recurring theme in ancient history, to what extent what was it the sole factor.

You say you've read ahead and made all your notes for the year, however this isn't the full syllabus. The syllabus for Medicine Through Time goes right through to the development of penicillin and vaccination. Why don't you read through the rest of the topics on the syllabus instead of worrying about doing more advanced questions than necessary?

This is up to ancient, where we are in class :smile:

I think we have a test after half time so I wnated to make sure I was writing an essay for the write bit :smile:
