The Student Room Group

I've just been out to my car and discovered the driver side door has been egged.

So last night was Mischief Night. I stayed indoors most the night spending time with you guy's on TSR or watching TV not doing anybody any harm.

This morning about 15 minutes ago I walk out to my silver car and to my anger I discovered some little brat has egged the drivers side door panel, I don't think any egg is on the window, it all seems to be on the door panel. I haven't made any attempts to clean it off yet, I need advice first. but looking at it I doubt it will come off or come off easily, whoever threw the egg bust have thrown it with force because the whole panel is splattered with yolk.

I'm guessing it was egged 10 pm onward's last night so say it's been on my car for 12 hours and with the weather being so freakishly warm for this time of year ( global warming) the egg seems to be well and truly baked on.

I'm wondering should I attempt to clean it now or wait until after tonight when Halloween is out the way because it will probably only end up getting egged again and the current egg has already dried itself onto the car so I doubt it will do any more damage if I leave it till after tomorrow's egging's are out the way.

I'm rather new to the area, only been here 8 months and whoever egged my car I like to think it's nobody I know from my new area or anyone I know in particular. the car is 14 years old but that's not the point.

I'm already feeling stressed and perhaps showing signs of being a schizophrenic so anything like this makes me feel worse

any advice please

Just reading this makes me annoyed, I can see why you would feel the same. At least it probably wasnt anything personal and its not an attack against you, so try to look at it in that way.

You could wait.. but think of all the cars in the area- its probably not highly likely that it will happen again. And is the egg actually stuck in somewhere that it would be difficult to reach? If by hand you can clean it thats something, and theres bound to be a particular cleaning product for the surface of the car.

Im sorry to hear about potential schizophrenia, have you spoken to anyone about that?
Wish you all the best

Thanks for the reply.

I hope it wasn't anyone I know

I could wait but they say the longer egg is on the surface the more damage it does, but, the egg look's like it's completely dried on anyway and couldn't soak in anymore . I don't know what to clean it with, they say egg yolk is very damaging to a car's paint-job , perhaps I can go and use a really powerful jet wash at the garage and see how I get on with that ? there may be lasting damage though but I hope not

the egg is just on the door panel so I can definitely clean it by hand but as said, egg is extremely extremely tough to clean off, with just water/soap is almost impossible if its dried egg like the case with mine

I haven't spoken to anybody yet, I just think what I have is more than anxiety and irrational thoughts

Have you tried to clean it at all yet?
I think it would just take some research and asking around, particularly a nearby business that deal with car repair..? Even if they don't specialise in that area they may be aware of a specific product that could help.

In that case, id say the sooner you take action the better (for both the car and the potential schizophrenia).

Perhaps you could contact a doctor for cbt with a therapist in the nhs? If youre over 18 then it should be fine to arrange, I know Talking Space, its worth taking a look at.

thanks a lot, you've been amazing, I'm going to go straight the garage after and try jet washing it off.

I'm just upset more than anything, I haven't done anything to upset anyone but still they decide I deserve to have my car egged and my day ruined
First in your eyes now on your car, you and eggs really don't get along do you?

It's my pleasure, honestly . Okay, good start!

About being upset, all i can say is, kids of that age are not trying to upset anybody, they are just trying to be cool and fit in with the gang. I doubt, especially if its kids, that its nothing personal, and i doubt anyone has egged your car believing that you specifically deserve this. Theyre just drawn to take part in rebellious behaviour. Obviously it cant be changed now, and it is extremely annoying, but you can only move forward and try and find a solution. Is it really noticeable? From a distance?

When I went out to the car this morning it looked awful, the door was literally splattered with egg.
I've just arrived home from BP garage, I tried for about 10 minutes with a high pressure jet washer to clean the egg off, got most of the egg off but about I'd say 10% remains, it seems embedded into the paintwork, I'd be much more annoyed if it were a newer car. I'll try and t-cut it off but the impact of the egg has left a slight scar on the door panel.

my last car got egged in the summer once, came out next morning to find it been egged and well and truly baked on and nothing at all removed the egg, I had to drive arrive with an egged stained car for months until I sold it to a friend and even now t is still egg stained

See if you can leave it in a friends garage or something tonight if you do wash it off today

I don't know many people with garages or those who have one will either be using it to shelter their own car or for something else.

Guess I'll be on egg cleaning duties again tomorrow

I know it isnt nice but it is kids being stupid they arent trying to hurt you or your property they are just trying to have a laugh, I am not justifying what they did I am just saying they don't entirely understand the consequences

I guess so but they're hurting me mentally, I said I already have problems and when I get targeted for last night example being egged, I think that only weird people get egged so does that mean the kids around my area think I'm weird ?
I didn't even realise it was Mischief Night last night :lolwut: I remember when police used to come into our school and give us a stern talking to about it every year:rofl:
Slap some bacon on pour oil over the lot set it alight and you have breakfast :-)

Dont worry about it. It's probably you being new to the area. If moving has been stressful try finding somewhere you can get away from everything. Somewhere natural perhaps or somewhere that has an air of familiarity. I was in bad shape after moving over the summer but I did the above and it really helped!
