Biology help! (aqa)

1) Describe how starch is digested to glucose in the small intestine

2) Explain how the presence of undigested lactose leads to discomfort

Idk why you need help with these questions tbh... but here we go:
1) Amylase hydrolyses starch to disaccharide, maltose and then maltase breaks down maltose to monosaccharide, glucose. (2 glucose mols)
2) Read about lactose intolerance

Im doing A2 so from what i can remember (Q2)

If lactose isnt hydrolysed (mainly due to the absence of lactase, the enzyme: 'lactose intolerance') the bacteria on the epithelium of the intestines ferment the lactose, which i think produces a lot of gas and caused the discomfort. Hope i helped
