A lot of world records have been split between men and women, mostly due to differences in physical ability.

If a transgender person breaks a world record, specifically pre-op, which category would they be placed in, and would this be different if they broke it after the operation?

Their pre-op gender, I'd presume.

As for post-op, I'm clueless.
Without wanting to seem culturally insensitive (lol jk i don't care) it would seem slightly unfair to be allowed to "choose" the easier record to break.
Not that any trans person is likely to do that, obviously.

They'd simply be referred to as the transgender person who broke whatever record.

You might see both their identities being mentioned, like you do in the media. E.g.

"Jennifer (now John) broke the record for most X by a transgendered individual..."

It depends on the record, if it's in sport I guess it'd be based on biological sex, however if it was something non-physical it'd be the gender identity as defined by the man/woman who won the record.
