Dentistry - Newcastle University 2015 Entry

Hey everyone,

I thought I would make a thread for general discussion for those applying to study dentistry at the University of Newcastle in September of 2015.

This is one of my options along with Dundee, Cardiff and Sheffield.

I'm an IB student and here are my stats below:

GCSEs:
3 A*s, 6 As

IB predicted:
42 (equivalent to 4.6 A*s at A level looking at UCAS tariff)

UKCAT:
2680 (670 average)

That actually quite scary how similar our applications are! Are you really applying to 3 of the same unis?!

Your stat are similar aswell!

Right I wasn't too happy with my UKCAT but after hearing this year has been quite tricky, the average is much lower than previously. We fall into the top 30% of everyone who sat the ukcat which isn't too bad for the score we got imo.

Heard anything from the unis? I got a work experience thing from Dundee.

Well I received the acknowledgement of application shortly after sending UCAS.

I also applied here for biomedical sciences (insurance choice) and I have an offer for this already.

Not heard anything else about dentistry though yet. I'm so nervous waiting! Yourself?

I haven't heard anything except my initial email.
I really wanna get Newcastle though! I'm hoping no news is good news!
My UKCAT is probably too low at 640, but my friend got in last year with 632.
I know the interviews are definitely being held in January and February.

Omg that's so funny! All the same unis!! You yave a really good UKCAT! Impressive! You should definitely be getting interviews! I hope I do for at least one! Hahaha

Yeah this year that score you have is above the average so you're good on that front! I wouldn't write it off with that UKCAT and other strong academics and personal statement can definitely make up for it. No news is good news is definitely what's keeping my nerves at easy through this treacherous wait! Haha

That would be a dream come true receiving an interview for all 4 choices!! Only time will tell I guess... Haha

Okay, so when do we hear (roughly) from Cardiff and Sheffield regarding interviews? Any ideas

So I've heard some people have received interview invites from Newcastle at noon today. Apparently one person phoned admissions who said they will be sending out interviews up until Christmas holidays,so if that's true then we've still got time left! Don't worry if you haven't received one just yet!
