How should we deal with overpopulation?

what is the best way to deal with over population?

According to projections, the world population will continue to grow until at least 2050, with the population reaching 9 billion in 2040, and some predictions putting the population in 2050 as high as 11 billion. Walter Greiling projected in the 1950s that world population would reach a peak of about nine billion, in the 21st century, and then stop growing, after a readjustment of the Third World and a sanitation of the tropics.
The problem is that sooner or later there will be a population that cannot be sustained,
What are the best ways to deal with overpopulation?

Anyone who has been on long term benefits should not receive any child benefits for the children they have. We also need to reduce and control immigration from eu and especially non eu countries as these people tend to have large families
nature will provide her solution in the near future...

Make society more equal, build more houses and put more effort into saving the planet. There is plenty of resources for everybody on the planet if they are used efficiently.

Overpopulation is a regional rather than global problem. The America's and all but southern Eurassia and the Middle East have a fine fertility rate. Africa, the Middle East and parts of southern Eurasia are the problem.

As such, it's not a problem for the UK.

I'd probably create a couple of diseases and call them Ebola and HIV.
Put condoms everywhere, freely available.

Well considering that the majority of Earth is uninhabitable and that our main economic resource is oil (and various other fossil fuels) one day we will run out of space, we will run out of money, how will our ambulances, police cars, jet planes, cargo ships and power stations run when we have no major fuels left because they are being used on an unsustainable growing population?

Well we'll have to see about that, will the case remain the same in 40-50 years? And if so, would would the state of the world be in?

Okay, but you can't force people to wrap it before they tap it. And you haven't taken it into account that condom companies aren't going to hand out free condoms to everyone unless they can make money from it, where's that money coming from?

I didn't suggest handing out free condoms.

You cannot force people to wear a condom, but you can educate them about the effectiveness of contraception in the fight against HIV, instead of telling them that God doesn't like condoms.

You did say "handed out freely".
And how can you expect people to afford condoms all the time when people in the third world very often can't even afford food.

our species has not lived in harmony with nature. she will punish us appropriately.
Increase living standards, give women control of their own reproductive cycles, condoms for all, kick backwards religions into touch. There done. Nobel peace prize please.

Well I wouldn't expect condom makers to foot the bill, rather governments/taxes. Might be cheaper than a bunch of babies being born in the long run. As for religion... urgh. It's almost 2015, it's about time the world stopped paying any attention to the wishes of that nonsense.

Use alternative sources such as biofuel which are renewable? Cars in Brazil run on ethanol.
