It used to make me very happy. Now that memory just contrasts with how miserbale I feel now, making me feel even worse. I am one sad butterfly

You get time off though which I always like.

In a parallel universe OP, you would be exuberant of such glee when the days of Christmas near. Liberation son.
Remember physics OP, it will always bring such good.

Interesting, 2012 was the worst Christmas of the lot for me - I always thought Christmas was bulletproof for being in a 'trough' but I just about got through Christmas but by New Years had sunk into a staying in my room type depression (of the sort where I thought I wouldn't actually see 2013 out - took until March to recover.

Being in a nightlcub with a countdown p*ssing away the last seconds of 2013 was one of the most emotionally intense experience of my life - both exhilarating and upsetting at the same time. In came 2014, heralded to some hardcore beats for its first 6 hours and touch wood so far personally its been the best year personally for me since 2007.
Christmas and winter are both my favourite times of year ! My boyfriend's birthday is in winter (and so is mine) so I get to give loads of presents. Also means my boyfriend has a lot of time off so that makes it so much better :h:.
Can't think of anything worst than Christmas it's just so hyped up it's that bad I go on holiday for 2 week's and don't return until January lol.

I used to love Christmas, but it feels like it's been different since.. 2012?? Why that year? A lot of people I've talked to seem to feel the same way, maybe the world really did end D: This year's Christmas is going to be very different to all the years before though, with my parents not together and all, and my older sister being at her boyfriend's. So it'll just be my mum, my two younger sisters, and me. I hope it'll be ok, but I'm going to have to change my mental definition of it now.

Winter I'm ok with, I prefer being warm but that's why it's so nice to be cooped up inside. I'm usually the warmest so people cuddle up to me which I'm ok with too  My favourite part of it is when I had to wake up really early to head to the train station for uni back in 1st year. This was more Jan/Feb when there was a new dusting of snow on the pavements. Pure, unblemished carpets of soft snow. And complete silence too because it was so early, no cars to be heard at all and it was dark, the streets only lit by the streetlights.

I loved walking to the station on my own, nothing but the crunching of snow under my feet and the billowing of clouds that form from my breath. There's something really calming about walking on snowy pavements in the dark.

Daytime is not so enjoyable however, snow turns to sludge as people desperately clear the roads so that cars can pass safely, everything is wet and the snow turns a muddy brown-grey. It's horribly slippy too, I've been working on perfecting a snow-walking technique which I had to develop when walking home because I live in a place with lots of hills [[That's Wales in a nutshell]], I know all too well the uncomfortable pang of adrenaline as your centre of gravity shifts far beyond your feet, the friction you once trusted under your boots fails and time slows down as your rear heads towards the pavement like the moon in that Zelda game.

"You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you?"

[[The world may as well end if people saw you fall, especially if you hear giggles]]

You should be a writer lol
No, I really like winter. I love to dress up in layers and take walks in the darkness , sit by a log fire, watch fireworks, Christmas lights, night entertainment, evening markets .
As for summer... Mostly yuck. It's too sticky, busy, I can barely breath and it always smells of BO!

I do love Christmas.. I spend one day with my BF and his family then the next with my dad and partner and then the next with my mum and brother. It's like having 3 Christmas's! Lots of food, festive cheer and gifts! Seeing people smile and their eyes light up and when they open their gifts is magical!

I feel the same way, probably because to most people Christmas has become a consumerist, materialistic and shallow celebration that begins it's 'celebration' earlier and earlier every year so that people have more time to buy pointless things they don't need. The single thing I care about at Christmas is sitting down and having a meal with my whole family and I can't even do that because my sister lives abroad. I don't care at all about presents; every year I tell people not to buy me things because I already have everything I need but somehow people always seem to guilt-trip themselves into buying presents for me that I have no use for. It's kind of silly. I end up giving most of them away to charity rather than collect dust in my house.

I love these threads. It's like a X-factor for who can be trendiest and coolest, and not enjoy Christmas the most.

Bonuses for using the phrases "materialistic" and "commercialised crap".

So new. So original. So unique.
I've always found New Years and Christmas difficult.

It's hard because although it's nice to see people are happy it always makes my loneliness seem more unnatural and like there's no place for it. Either way it's nice to see so many cheery people!

One of the obligatory posts in the blogs of wannabe writers is how hypocritical and shallow the festive season is. I must have read six or seven versions of the same stale brain farts.
I found it depressing for a few years as a teenager. When I no longer struggled to get to sleep because of excitement, which actually happened around the age of 14, I found it so strange. The anticipation just wasn't the same, even my younger brother was too old to be truly excited about it, and it's as though a lot of the magic had gone.

So it's gone from a time of year that was absolutely looked forward to and counted down to pretty much through the whole of the rest of the year, to something that's more about the stress of preparing food, buying presents, and deciding who can and can't be in the same room with each other for long enough to eat a turkey dinner.

I have got a bit better and do enjoy the day and the time with my family  and actually the week in between Christmas and New Year is nice too, but I do feel incredibly wistful sometimes, when I remember how it used to make me feel. Because I just don't think adults (until perhaps they have their own children) feel excitement on that level about anything.

But it's a stage that everyone has to get through, and possibly that's what's the problem here for lots of people .

Like seriously i hate this time of year. Nothing makes me happy anymore. I've got a job that keeps me busy, cool people i hang out with at work and go out with and plenty of money to buy what i need, but i just can't seem to use any of it on myself.

We got a brand new car for Christmas (literally fresh from the factory with only 2 miles on it) but event that didn't cheer me up. I wish i could go back to being a kid again. I really loved cars and would buy loads of things and be happy but now that i can do that for myself, i don't.

I thought that getting a girlfriend would make me happy but no. Even though fit girls at work like me, i lack the courage to ask them out cos i know they'll say yes and i'll have to open my heart and let them close to me. I get envious seeing people in town being really happy with their lovers buying loads of christmas presents but material things don't please me anymore. I eat well and sleep well but i'm still feeling like ****.

HELP?????

No christmas is meant to be a time of joy not depression why do you dislike it so much?

Yes. I hate the weather and all the pointless gifts you see in shops that nobody really wants. On the other hand, I'm hoping for a bit of snow so I can hopefully have a few days off sixth form.
Christmas is nowhere near as magical as when I was a kid. I have such happy memories, of standing in my school's CofE church on a dark, cold December evening for compulsory Christmas carol singing, of walking through my local shopping centre, with its bustle and colour and decoration and toy and game shops, of waking up to find a Gamecube and Super Smash Bros Melee in my sack and spending half of Boxing Day playing it.

Christmas is my favourite time of the year- it's the memories that make it for me.

I also have a 7 year old brother, so it's brilliant that he still feels the magic.

Do remember that a sizeable proportion of the country is Muslim and doesn't celebrate Christmas anyway!

Yeah. Every year same carols and same wishes that the coming year will be different and more rewarding but eventually it all ends up singing Silent Night....

I like Christmas. I usually find the day itself really boring and I hate going to the shops when they're so busy, but I love Christmas movies, buying and wrapping presents, Christmas songs and I'm really looking forward to getting 2 weeks off work this year. I haven't had that since 2008.

I do find Winter really depressing though. I'm not a fan of the cold or darkness that comes with it.
