Low blood pressure?

I haven't been feeling well lately, and someone suggested to me that I may have low blood pressure but I'm not convinced. I have relatives with high blood pressure. Any thoughts?

My symptoms are:

- Dizziness when standing up.
- Dizziness when breathing deeply, e.g. singing.
- Irregular stomach aches, sometimes two days in a row, sometimes once a week etc.
- Occasional headaches.

I've had all of these in the past few weeks. Could they be related? Thanks in advance.

I suffer from Low blood pressure and the only ones that I don't get are the stomach aches and the dizziness when breathing deeply, low blood pressure runs in my family and I've never heard of that with them either. The best way to check is to go to the doctors, they don't take blood, it's just one band around your arm. You need to get it checked though as low blood pressure is linked to blood sugar levels so try and maintain a healthy level of sugar in your system. My school ended up putting a care plan in for me because stress triggered my blood pressure so it is best to get it checked but unfortunately if you do there is no official diagnosis like high blood pressure, therefore you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle to deal with it.

I'm sorry but low blood pressure isn't linked to 'blood sugar levels'. OP if you're concerned, make an appointment with your GP.

ERM, I think I know my own body. Low blood pressure, once it starts dropping, which causes black outs is linked to sugar levels because the only way to get someone with low blood pressure out of a black out is through increasing the sugar levels in the persons body and then following it up with proper food. I have had 3 blackouts, my mum has had 7, we know what we are talking about.

The only way to get someone with low blood sugar out of a black out (read: hypo) is to give them glucose. If someone has blacked out due to hypotension then that is an entirely different matter.

Oh, and I'm a doctor.

And I've dealt with this for the last 7 years, I'm now 18 and my mum's dealt with it for the last 40 years, a doctor advised us to take glucose to boost the sugar levels and we've had this advice of 5 different doctors now. I trust my GP's and what has always worked. Sorry if you're a doctor but I know my own body and my own inherited blood pressure. I have always blacked out due to my blood pressure not my sugar levels but it has always been dealt with by sugar levels.

That's fine, if you can explain the physiology decently to me then I'll accept that as fact. Same as if you could give me a recorded blood sugar or blood pressure value during these episodes.

But anyway, there's no point in arguing here as it's not at all helpful to the OP who simply warrants a trip to his doctor.

This is why chefs don't run A&E departments.
So can it be stress related?!

For sure it can, but not certainly. Like I said, have a chat with your GP.

you're right. this is the same with me!
Buy a blood pressure monitor for £20 and test it yourself. Easy checked.

They're not right. If someone blacks out because of hypotension (low BP) then giving them sugar won't help them. You need to get their blood pressure up, not their blood sugar levels.

True, obviously you can also give glucagon. My choice of phrase 'the only way to' is referencing the above post I was quoting

However this is besides the point, we're not discussing the management of hypoglycaemia here, rather that hypotension =/= hypoglycaemia.

I totally agree. I have low blood pressure too and my blood sugar levels are low too. My Mum has the same problem. I sometimes get really shaky when my sugar levels drop.. Anyway, so I know exactly what you mean!
