How to simplify this?

Doing june 07 OCR maths worksheet

in question 6)i)

I got 3e^(2a) + a^(2)/2 -3 = 42

I need to simplify this to get..

a= [ln(15-a^(2)/6)]/2

[ ] are just secondary brackets

subtract 1/2a2
divide by 3
take logs
divide by 2
take the 1/2 up the log

When doing questions like this you need to work backwards in your head and undo the form they give it to you in, if you do then the steps to rearrange it into that form are obvious.
