Edexcel FP2 June 2015 - Official Thread

I haven't seen any FP2 threads so I thought I'd just start one.

How's revision going? How are people doing with past papers? Which topics are you finding most difficult? Feel free to post any questions, and hopefully someone will be able to help.

Edexcel FP2 - Wednesday 3rd June 2015

Hopefully this thread will motivate us all, and help us to achieve the grades we deserve.

Are first and second order needed for polar coordinates and M&T series?

No
I think I have M1 at the same time as this on the same day :'(

Too true. Most FM candidates will have done M1 in their first year so that will not be a clash for many.

Remember that there are only 10 slots for A level Maths (and FM) units, up from 9 slots last year. This means that most of them will be for 2 units. Edexcel do their best to minimise the number of candidates who have 2 exams in the same session. No arrangement will suit everyone.

The one that still worries me is FP3 and S2 in the same session. This caused many of our students to do far worse in S2 than they should have last year, since they had been working really hard on their FP3, a hard module.

Some candidates have C4 and S4 on the same day. Would you say that's just as bad or not so much?

I can't say since I don't know anything about S4. I would hope that Further Mathematicians would find C4 relatively straight forward (certainly compared with FP2 or FP3).

Yeah - this is the downfall of doing FP2 in the first year, I guess.

I was planning on learning some of the integration and vectors from FP3 to help with C4 - do you think this will be helpful?

All I can say is that FP2 differential equations have helped with the C4 ones so much - they are so simple in comparison!

Integration in FP3 is for hyperbolic functions so I don't know if it would help you with C4, but I could be wrong so don't take my word for it. If you're planning to do Integration for FP3 you'd need to do Hyperbolic Functions and Differentiation for Hyperbolic Functions first. I hope this was of some help

Ah okay, thanks! I guess I just have to practice my integration then - I always make such careless mistakes -_-

How about FP3 vectors - would they help?

I haven't covered FP3 Vectors yet I'm afraid. I'll have a look at it and let you know as soon as I can.

I've looked over it. I'd recommend you do it because it requires a thorough understanding of C4 Vectors. Once you've completed Vectors in FP3 and have fully understood it, you will find C4 Vectors easier.
We're about a quarter of the way through FP2 and people are revising for it already 😭 mind you, we still haven't finished C4 either!

Personally, I'd say the end of Further Complex Numbers (Locus and Transformations) was hard to get my head around.
