do you want to explain why you left the school?

-Could not stand a 6 day week every week, when they could easily make it 5
-lots of wasted time on cultural perspectives
-waste over an hour every week travelling across London to do pe when we could do it much closer to school
-Claims to reimburse travel costs without actually doing it
-claims of free school meals but not provided (atleast when I was there)
-No playground, and lunch is like 90 mins so you have to wonder central London for an hour doing nothing or just sit in a classroom for ages.
-The jouney on the tube is too hot and conjested for my liking
-shops around the school too expensive.

Could not agree more!!!!

I'd still love to have a 6 day week - BUT make it ****ing productive!!
They are only doing the 6 days a week to match the private partner they have (westminster school)

Thats why PE lessons seem so long !

These points all open my eyes - I might not even accept! Haha. I'll stick with doms thanks:

Much closer,
A history that goes back (esp on tsr)
Best results (state colleges in the uk)

Why did I even apply !

Thanks for this.

Read this: This is the response of a student who studies there: (to your message)

one student left and we still have 140 students who stay because they enjoy it 1. Yes we stay in skl longer but that's for our own benefit because we learn more and have longer holidays then any other skl 2. Like I said CP is not a waste of time and you'll find that skl like CNI also do CPS but not with as luck of a variety as ours and 3 traveling to skl is not a waste of time what do u wanna do be home skled so what u have ti travel to skl that's not such. Big deal 4. Travel money is re embursed so get your facts right 5. Kids do get free skl meals 6. This ain't primary skl where u need a play ground to play cops and robbers in and if you were nature enough to even come to Harris you would use your 90 min lunch break to eat socialize and do study 7. The tunes are too hot I'm sorry would u like Harris westminister to call up TFL and change that for you didn't know you were related to the queen and u deserve privileges people travel into London for work u either get sued to the conditions of traveling in London now or you ca. Stay at home and jot leave your house because everything is a waste of time for you and 8. If shops are expensive bring pack lunch and there is a student meal deal offer for garrison westminister kids

Im not going to have a petty argument with whoever wrote that. I was asked for my opinion and that is what i gave. Every reason i gave was true at my time of attending this school, even if it has now changed it should not take a month to start providing free school meals and travel help. Additionally, i did not learn/gain one thing from my cultural perspectives in my time there. If I add up my total time spent in lessons, my current school outperforms hwsf in this measure in its 5 day week, so obviously the timetable is heavily faulted if it needs six days for less contact time.
I would bet money that the majority of people would want an outside area seperate from that of the public where they can relax of play some sport outside.
If this person could read they would see that I said the tube is too hot and conjested "FOR MY LIKING", I did not ask hwsf or anyone else to change this, I gave it as a reason for my leaving.
Now, I don't care one bit whether you choose to listen to me or this person. It is your choice.

Oh god no - I'm with you all the way!
This thread has changed my thoughts about HWSF. Has anyone heard of Powerlist Foundation College? It's oppening in London for 2015 and I've applied it looks really good.

Did you go the open day??????????????????!!!!!!!!!!! why is no one replying to this bloody questions ffs.

call up the school tomorrow

No, I didn't manage to make it to the open day and yes I probably will do. Sorry!

I also attended one of the open events and was pretty amazed from what I saw. I also applied and received a letter regarding the exams. I was shocked when I looked at my candidate number which is 401 :frown:

I'll give you a little tip, my candidate number was 0013. What I'm sure they have done, is assign your year the set of numbers after ours. Only reason I think this, is because my student number is also 13.

Original post by DarkAvenger

I think that exams won't be too easy because I asked a student there about the exams and he said they were very hard.

No, the exam's aren't easy, but they weren't meant to be. They gave us hard papers, not so they could see what we knew, but how we tackled a problem. Don't despair if you open your paper, and it looks like a whole different language.

I spoke to the head on twitter through dm's.

I don't know how to describe.

Firstly, the way he acts in videos on youtube are completely cringey and you can see straight through his fake enthusiasm. Not to say he isnt enthusiasm but he is making it seem like it's a 300 year established school whereas they havent even finished their first year!

He is a little blunt - from my experiences obviously.

I can more than guarantee that "the head" has, or will read this. He did the same last year, on the thread http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2488867

Not sure where you got your information from but I'd like to, as a current HWSF student, point you in the right direction:

1.

The 6 day week is actually really nice. It gives you much more teaching time per week. This means that for every four hours of extra study you do on a Saturday you're given an extra 24 hours holiday. We broke up earlier that most private schools.

2.

Cultural Perspecive's aren't a waste of time. Like, seriously. They're really fun.

3.

The "hour" that is "wasted" every week is really worth it. No where else in London that we could use offers us the amount of variety that Harris Falconwood facilities offer.

4.

I'm lucky enough not to need reimbursement, but my friends who do need it, get it.

5.

The 80 minutes you get for lunch should be used to do something useful, and if that means working, then you should get a bit of work done. If you need help, teachers are ALWAYS there to help.

6.

It's congested for everyone. If you don't like one method, there is always more than one method of getting to Central London. ALWAYS.

7.

Well, there's a Tesco's, McDonalds, Morrisons, Subway. Need I go on?

You have a good point there.

Personally I wouldn't mind the building as long as the teaching and opportunities it offers are good.
But I heard that they mostly use Westminster's facilities, if you were wondering, so you would have access to good facilities.

We actually rarely use Westminster facilities
Merry Christmas guys!!

1 - The six day week, just like my counterpart said, leaves us with a lot more time off on the holidays. Also we end at 1 on a Saturday which is hardly tough labour seeing as we are in the middle of London with all of our friends.

2 - If you don't like a subject like cultural perspectives, then you obviously don't want to get into a good Uni. The best universities require that you have an interest in other things than your chosen subjects.

3 - If you don't want to travel to Falconwood for sport then you have the choice of bridge and debating if you don't want to travel. There are also excellent facilities at Falconwood so why wouldn't you want to go there?

4 - Seeing as I do get reimbursement I can assure you that I do receive payment for my travel.

5 - Obviously we wouldn't get free school meals at the moment as we won't have a canteen until next year. You should feel lucky that Cafe Fresco gave us a discount on their food so you don't have to travel far for food.

6 - Obviously we have no playground seeing as we are in Westminster, one of the most densely packed parts of London. Again, you have extra lunch so it can be used as a time for socialisation as well as a time for intellectual study. I manage to fill up my lunch times without feeling bored.

Your last two points are nothing to do with the school. If you work in a big bank in London, then you will need to grin and bear the commute, believe me, you aren't the only one who hates their journey to and from London. Your last point is completely falso as we have so many cheap places for food in Strutton ground including Subway, Morrisons, Fish and Chips, a chicken shop and a bunch of food stalls. There is also a Tesco by Westminster station and Mcdonalds and others down Victoria Road.

You didn't make that clear before, I was unaware you were no longer applying. Therefore I think I deserve a slightly less abrasive answer.

Have fun wherever you go
