Gonville and Caius has finally updated UCAS! Although, I didn't get an email from UCAS to say so...
Anyone waiting should just check track every now and then

how did you get an unconditional!

I'm an international applicant from Austria and have already completed my "Matura" (Austrian A-levels) in June 2014. There's still a compulsory military or community service (6/9 months) in Austria ... so I am more or less forced to do a gap year which is why I applied after my "A-levels".

However, applicants from Austria usually have to take an English exam (such as IELTS, TOEFL, etc) and get quite high marks to be accepted. They apparently decided that I don't have to and obviously I won't complain

You're right, my Churchill one just came through! It wasn't a mistake, hooray!!! And actually, my offer is very slightly easier than they'd first said (probably won't make a difference) as I can now get the STEP grades 1,2 in any order from STEP II,III. UCAS will email but probably in an hour or two.

Yeah me  - I'm not sure whether to try for A*s in as many subjects as possible or to focus on one or two subjects. It certainly could have been worse than A*AA though, from some of the offers I've seen.

Ahh I'm definitely trying my best in all of them so it spreads the risk a bit

Hey, stalking this page instead of doing my essay and noticed this. As a student at Newnham I can honestly say you'll come to love the all girls bit anyway! I applied directly, but originally said absolutely not to an all female school and was iffy even through the first part of last term. But at this point, I can hardly remember why I wouldn't want this in the first place  Congrats on the offers both of you and everyone!
Hey smart people  Any advice for me?

A teacher's been making my life a misery over the last few months - it's not constant (maybe once every couple weeks? but it's escalated) but they do their best to belittle me, make me cry in front of my classmates, imply I'm arrogant a lot, and I'm talking really blatantly nasty comments in front of my entire class. I've always really liked this teacher but I shouldn't have to take this **** just because they've suddenly decided they don't like me - I ask a lot of questions in class usually (nobody else speaks!) and I'm good at the subject but now I'm always scared to talk. They've never apologised even when their comments are utterly unwarranted, and if I said this kind of **** to them I would be dead by now! I want to go to my head of year, but I'm worried they won't believe me or I'll get too upset and not sound credible...

okay that's reassuring, thank you! just wondering do you mainly socialise with your college or do you have male friends as well? it's just many of my close friends are guys as well as girls and i think i'd miss all the laddish banter, and i have to ask is it more difficult to get guys being at an all girls college? x

It sounds like the teacher is jealous of you or something and that they dont like you making them look stupid by asking questions they don't know the answer to, i have a teacher who hates me because i question the stuff she gets wrong but i couldnt care less if she likes me or not and shes not nasty to me she just doesnt give me any slack with homework and detentions haha if it's relly upsetting you that much then definitely see your head of year, they wouldnt think it was silly if they are any decent head of year as it's their job to deal with stuff like this and i've had a couple of bad teachers i've had to go to my head of year about and it's way better than trying to tackle it yourself. Teachers aren't perfect y'know and your teacher may not realise they are upsetting you this much so the head of year having a word with them may help, you can also ask your head of year not to mention it was you who said anything anyway and they will have to respect that. i hope you manage to get it sorted out! otherwise its only a few months left of school anyway and then you're off to cambridge so woop woop! xxx

That sound awful! :frown: I would hate that and it would make me feel depressed considering I'd have thought the teacher would be the first person to take your side and be far from the person making you feel miserable. You should tell the head of year, anyone - maybe your teacher doesn't realise it is upsetting you.

I get this quite a lot too. I just take it as banter because im pretty sure thats how its given, I laugh with it (because its normally funny). I also quite like that it makes me check myself and try really hard not to give them anything to imply im arrogant over, I hate to come across that way but i do quite a lot - so i feel the banter is good for me.

My advice would be there's not much left of the year, so see if you can change your perspective of it, go along with the banter, maybe give some back - just careful not to overstep any lines and get in **** - keep it light hearted (I normally go for "HAH good one miss/sir" really sarcastically) - think of it as a compliment and try not to give them an excuse to call you arrogant

That being said, Without being there none of us would know if its got a load of malice behind it. And if its genuinely upsetting you, speak to either your head of year, form tutor, or any teacher you get on well with, and ask them to have a word.

Don't let it bum you out

It's honestly definitely not banter. I have that kind of banter with one of my English teachers and it's hilarious  but she just genuinely means it maliciously and she knows full well it hurts me, I've been crying in a lot of her lessons (I have social issues and I'm pretty sensitive) and she just sits there and looks at me contemptuously. The only reason she seems to have in thinking I'm arrogant is that I know I'm good at her subject and I'll answer questions people are asking me.

Damn that sucks, Well I'm quite proud to be honest, so in that situation I'd refuse to actively take part in the lessons, I'd do all the work, and if they specifically asked a question id give the shortest answer possible, just as a screw you to them - i wouldnt want them to know they'd upset me with the comments, just that i was bored with them.

But thats just me, and if you're not that thick skinned (not a bad thing) then definately speak to someone

I was always like you in high school (I'm American so different words, sorry); all my friends were guys. But actually most of my friends are at Newnham. that's not to say I don't still have male friends from other colleges; most everyone at Newnham does and it isn't tricky at all! As far as getting guys, I personally don't like clubbing so can't attest to anything like that, but (as an average looking human from an all female college) I've been on multiple dates last term as have many of my friends who are interested in doing so. Rest assured, Newnham isn't a convent by ANY means
Hey my ucas updated, I'm accepted at campus M? Is is magdelene? Does any one Know? thanks!
