hence NEETs would be the first t go, not necessarily those in employment early

First to go where?

is this not proof that certain actions and skill-sets are of more value to society than other actions and skill-sets, and those without are therefore of less value to society-and by extension in the event of a desert island scenario with limited resources without said skill-set would be first to get eaten/shot/drowned?

You only get insecure if you compare yourself to others.

I don't have one because it is a pathetic debate. Get the **** over it. You seriously are the most insufferable person I have ever had the misfortune of speaking to.

ouch…debating whether to block you despite the fact I respect your views on other things

that's fair enough, a good attitude to take, but would you understand if people considered it a deal-breaker, or you didn't get a job as a result, etc.? Or would it get you annoyed at 'the system'?

edit: So is this STEM master race thing mostly a TSR thing? I wouldn't know, my uni experience was…sheltered

Unless you're applying for a specialist job that requires a particular degree, I don't understand why applicant a having degree x should be chosen over applicant b that has degree y if it's ONLY on their degree. If they're both irrelevant to the job it shouldn't matter, both degrees will have transferable skills. If one is directly relevant to the job then it makes sense they'd be chosen if they're compatible in every other sense too. If it was a relationship that was ruined over my choice of degree then I'd be glad to see the back of them if that's what matters to them. When it comes to a personal relationship I don't expect to need my CV in order to progress, it shouldn't matter.

The STEM master race is most prominent to me on TSR, but the members obviously already have such a mentality in the first place. It's pathetic. It really doesn't matter and most of the time they're just saying these things to make themselves feel even better about their choices. They've made their choice, I have made mine and neither effects the other. And don't think I've mixed massively in university! My experiences are pretty limited! But the friends in the sciences I mentioned are actually all graduates. So they've finished their courses, most of them having completed masters too, so they've moved on to the world of work and other concerns. Even their results don't matter to them anymore.

…the test for 'which is superior' I use is 'if you had to choose who lives or dies on a desert island, which people would go first?'

slippery slope I knowww

comparison to others is a useful thing; who else am I to compare to? (If you say 'myself', how did you formulate the views in which you define your own success? Probably by others)

Well for a start the brilliant thing about modern society is that somebody can do a technically frivolous job without starving to death; that is the sure sign of a productive civilization. The world would be a boring place if everybody was only doing jobs that are strictly necessary. People shouldn't determine their prestige by how necessary their job is, or else we should all be aspiring to be farmers.

But if you feel inferior about your degree, fix that by getting a job you are proud of. Nobody is going to look down on you for having a bad degree if you have a decent job.

Block me because I dislike you and find you to be a massive whiner? If I've said something that is incorrect go ahead and tell me what it is, but deep down you know you cause your own downfall, you know you constantly whine and make your problems worse by highlighting them and obsessing over them. Blocking me would seriously just confirm you're to afraid to accept the truth and move the hell on with your life, you clearly aren't ready or perhaps don't even want to to get better and I do not sympathise with you, I don't feel sorry for you in anyway and I think you deserve your unhappiness since you cause it yourself. Again if I've said something you don't agree with go ahead and tell me what it is, but you've been pulling this **** for (what I've seen) over a year on TSR.

ehh the problem comes when I am then aiming to get a job just because the job I really want to do is 'inferior'-this is where I see flaws in my reasoning

FFS. Where do you fabricate this stuff from?

Lol, I'm done here.
As someone who did both, I loved incorporating science into my art, and my creativity helped me flourish in science.

However, I know people who haven't done science and are incredibly arty.

If every career was easy, everyone would do it, so there has to be someone to do arty careers and stem careers.. But I think too many go into certain careers just because they can and then do not really have a goal at the end of it.

And art IMO has been given a bad light - who the frick thinks that a blank canvas or unmade bed is art?!

Art definitely took up a lot more of my time, and I think other artists/crafters will agree that the amount of time and experimenting that goes into our work is really under appreciated and people expect things for dirt cheap. We'd be working under minimum wage if we'd reduce our prices.

If you really want to do it who gives a ****? Maybe you wouldn't be first priority on a desert island, but then just avoid sailing.

out of curiosity, what job you going for?

well, yes

firstly it's not nice to be disliked of course, regardless of the reason (even justified reasons, yours are justified).

Secondly we would be unable to communicate then, and if I bother you that much this would be for your benefit mostly (since you were helping me to block me would not benefit me).

Thirdly I am fairly obsessed with 'the truth' as we all know, not sure what you're getting at here.

So the decision was not to do entirely with running away from you-although you yourself in real life try not to associate with people who irritate you, so why do so here?

Finally I think you've got very hostile to me since I read Redpill, even though I spoke to a counsellor about that just today for advice. ]

I've been doing this for most of my life in my head, there's no difference except I now share it. Perhaps I should go back to keeping quite about it (ffs I just went passive-aggressive manipulation on you)

I had to use an extreme scenario to get a straight answer.

Well tough, some people dislike me I'm fine with that, I don't obsess over it or get upset unless I feel it is unjustified, and even then I tend not to care.

It wouldn't be of any benefit or non-benefit to me. I find you insufferable yes which is why I ignore the majority of your posts because talking to you is like talking to a brick wall, a delusional brick wall at that. You are of no significant part of my life for it to make a difference to me if I were blocked or not.

You do not seek the truth though, you seek a twisted version of it too prove your messed up mind right. I don't support that, I find it repulsive and pitiful.

I've disliked you for a lot longer that when you started mentioning red-pill, only difference back then was I actually though I cold try to help you, now I see there is no helping you. You cannot be helped until you help yourself which you DO NOT ever do because let's face it you don't want help, not real help anyway. If you wanted to get better you would be getting better, you would stop posting this bull**** and whining constantly and by not posting this stuff you would obsess less...but once again your behaviour has no changed and it never will until you realise how much you **** yourself up. And again you deserve it since you do it to yourself, no sympathy form me.

Your opinion could apply to what many people think of me-I'm trying to explain to my dad why you're right.

why try and help someone you don't even like?

you also seem to assume that I like Redpill and did not try and get a second opinion to help 'spit it out' from my counsellor. Regarding this 'seeking twisted truth' in general, I'm not WANTING it I have clinical history of vulnerability to paranoia. I would like another truth-just finding it difficult to believe atm. That will get better with time.

It still seems to make sense since it at least removes you of (what I guess is perceived as) a very annoying person you get aggravated by when you happen to come online but otherwise can forget when you come off-in the same way I had to block people who were really aggressive towards me.

I like you so if I do block you it's for your sake as much as mine, that's the essence of my argument here.

but before I do I just want to know one more time-why would you try and help someone you don't like?

Because there is no point in anyone being lost or messed up in life, it doesn't' help them or the rest of society.

whether it helps me or not to be this way isn't really your responsibility to deal with, as for society that's mine and the mod's now. Thanks for your response.

"[h="1"]how not to get insecure abut having done an inferior degree?"[/h]Well...you could start by not referring to non-STEM degrees as "inferior"?
Original post by Smash Bandicoot
your hypothesis on the original thread sounded fairly convincing tbh.

STEM Master Race theory isn't just a TSR thing dude, I experienced discrimination for being non_STEM at work too

Tell me what you experienced. What was your degree and what is your current field of employment?
