Possession of a knife longer than a 3" pen knife is illegal. Saying that you are carrying it for self-defence makes you potentially liable for more serious offences (eg. you are carrying it with intent to cause harm).

Studies have shown that people carrying knives are something like 4 times more likely to be stabbed than unarmed people.
