Its not the peoples fault that this is happening, most people dont want to be in hospital unless they really have to. Like you said the tories are making cuts everywhere and closing down A&Es so why blame this on the patients?

There are subgroups of patients who aren't entirely blameless. In particular, there is a growing lack of personal responsibility which is almost always paired with a sense of inflated entitlement.

I'm referring especially to those people who turn up to A&E with chronic conditions because they're too impatient for a GP appointment. They are often very quick to complain about their 4hr wait and are deluded into thinking that the staff are behind the doors twiddling their thumbs.

Shocking given that only a few generations ago, healthcare was exclusively within the remit of the very wealthy and otherwise inaccessible to the wider population.

Indeed. I also wonder how many people know that for minor things, you can just go to the chemist? I've done that if it's not that serious and I know roughly what the problem is. (allergic reaction, etc)

There will be people like that but they are not the majority. I find your attitude towards sick patients quite shocking. There have been a growing number of cases of patients dying because they havent been seen on time. Entirely preventable with an efficient healthcare service and a government that isnt trying to demolish it.
And if people get tired of waiting for a gp appointment, and i know from experience it can be very hard to actually get one sometimes, then you have to wonder if they is something gp surgeries can do to ease the pressure on emergency departments.

I expect most people in this country are aware of what a pharmacy is.

I didn't say they were the majority, but what I described does form a significant enough proportion to cause detriment to other patients.

Except I'm not talking about sick patients, am I? And there is nothing wrong with my attitude.

There have been a growing number of cases of patients dying because they havent been seen on time.

Why? Because of the issue I've just described to you. Ask these patients why they didn't attend their GP surgery and they will just shrug at you.

Go and do some research. The crisis in the nhs isnt due to a growing number of hypochondriacs in the country. Five hospitals are being shut down in north london alone. Many people are unable to get gp appointments and their condition then gets worse.
Im done talking to you. Your ignorance just makes me mad.

I think it is acceptable to go to a&e if your gp doesn't have any appointments available but I think it is unacceptable for people to go there because of their lifestyle such as alcoholism, smoking.

Even if it's neither an accident or an emergency, as the name suggests? There are also walk in centres.

I'm not saying these patients are hypochondraics.

I'm not saying this is the SOLE reason the NHS is in crisis.

You're getting mad about false inferences from my posts. You proposed that patients are entirely blameless. There are groups that are not.

I disagree fundamentally with both of these statements.

Population growth, particularly in the elderly, is part of the crisis in the NHS as the resources don't increase to match and neither does social care. And a lack of understanding as to what "emergency" actually constitutes from what I've seen in A&E.

A bit more responsibility from people on nights out would DRASTICALLY help. I would put those people in the "not blameless" category. It's not pleasant sitting waiting for doctors whilst people have to have a swarm of doctors around them because they don't know when to stop.

How the **** can I produce evidence for a process yet to be shown to the public due to it being incomplete? **** me.

You are a quack. To make assumptions without providing evidence makes you a quack. It's not an insult; it's a simple adjective. Sending me to a clearly biased news article does not count as evidence before you start.

I know what a quack is.

I have shown you the figures from the USA where they spend more tax dollars per head of capital and get less in return, from the pages of that great Socialist mouthpiece Forbes no less. You have refuted me saying that this doesn't compare like with like (of course it doesn't... currently). You have shown me ZERO evidence that increasing private involvement leads to more efficient like-for-like care despite me offering to renounce my views if you could do so.

So I guess you must also be quack?

It is.
Why dont you read over your own posts.
The NHS is not free. We the taxpayers pay for it so lets get that out of the way.

The NHS is for sick people. The level of service varies from grim to excellent and it really depends what hospital you go to,whats wrong with you, what day/time/date/season you need attention.

I am not a sickly person but on the rare occasions i have interacted with the NHS , i have always had very good service.

You accept below it's not like-for-like comparison wise so why keep bringing it up?

http://www.adamsmith.org/blog/healthcare/hinchingbrooke-hospital-isnt-an-example-of-bad-privatisation-just-an-example-of-bad-business/

You've no doubt heard about Circle recently pulling out of running Hichingbrooke hospital? In this instance, they took a failing hospital and used public funds and their own to reform it into a very, very good hospital. Regretfully the Government cut funding and it was no longer sustainable, but prior to that it was a shining success how of public services can be run by private organisations. Read the article. I like this bit:

Circle Holdings took a failing hospital that “consistently ranked near the bottom of the 46 trusts for waiting times” and that would have been shut down if it hadn’t been sold and turned it into “one of the highest (ranked hospitals) for patient happiness”. Circle also corrected waiting time failures, leading the hospital to “(top) the list for short waiting times, seeing 98.2 per cent of patients within the required window”.
Hi. Clearly these people don't know what you've been through. I had enough of people thinking that they're so smart that they can make me feel like a fool but oh no you're not anymore 'cause I had enough of their judging (just because they are doctors and think they know best, when they're just more worried about the money than the people) and I'll report it I swear I will (a thing I should I have done a long time ago), 'cause I had enough of people going trough this! so dear that's an attitude you should never loose. You want the best for yourself and family, and friends and if you feel like you've been mistreated then you have the right to report it and have your say. No one is going to physically stop you from it. I was afraid too but not anymore. You have to feel comfortable and well, that's why doctors are there for you, not for judging and labeling and send you home or saying you are "mentally ill". Honestly f that ****e, 'cause clearly they are just being greedy and not caring humans. And having your mum etc important people dying on the family or close friends. I can say this 'cause I have been through so many time through this and it's quite annoying and sad and you just feel like you want to change the NHS for a better health care system so people don't have to suffer like this. Personally in my other country we have to pay to go to the doctors no matter what but AT LEAST they do care and do all the possible tests necessary and give them back on the same day if not you'll get them the next day, so I don't see why people are saying your comment it's absurd, cheeky, etc. You people really need to see what's like suffering and no one is there to help you. It took them more than 3 years! to diagnose me with simple anemia! That's really incredible isn't it? + A couple more health problems I have such as epilepsy, chronic back pain, due to curvature on my back, etc. And don't even mention that they gave me the wrong eyeglasses prescription! And once I had an ear infection and they said just to go home! + I used to see a neurologist and he demited or retired, whatever he did, he's not there anymore, so I did some tests and they discharged me, without even saying why?! And I'm here with a very serious chronic illness that's running my life, and causing all these problems and I don't know what to do, 'cause they don't do anything! What I usually do is (if I have an opportunity) see my doctor in my country when I go there in holidays and at least you don't need to wait so freaking long and they run all the tests you want and need and listen to you! Not send you home or just label you as mentally ill?! That's what is absurd! So you see the NHS doesn't really do much and if they just send you home to take paracetamol, they don't have a clue how bad that sometimes can be to your liver! It's not only me that's complaining or no! All my friends including the ones from here say it's absolutely rubbish! They don't care if it is free, they rather pay and see what's wrong 1st and treat it with the adequate treatment; but quick and effective, since the doctors are there for you since the 1st day, not like here, they dismiss you until practically, things are so bad that you are in the edge of dying, and I'm not dramatizing! Even my doctors from my country say the same thing, so I just hope people are not so selfish and open their eyes to see what's really like to suffer and they can't blooming do anything because they're either too busy, etc. Don't come up to me and say oh you just had a bad experience, because if someone came up to me and said that or something similar and gave me a fiver or whatever I would be rich! And say that I'm a hypochondriac, at least I care for my health and yes there is real problems in my health caused by an autoimmune disease causing all of this (that's what my doctors of my country said at least and I'm going back there to find out what they're going to do about it or want other tests to confirm it, because in all honesty here it can take years, more than necessary if you ask me, so I just gave up trying here). I'm on your side dear, when all these people don't have a clue what's like to be on the edge and still the docs don't care to do anything or dismiss you 'cause they don't and/or can't find what's wrong! C'mon people stop being like a child hiding behind whatever you hiding and come out and have your say! I don't want to see anymore people suffering like this! It's a disgrace! I'm not saying I don't like the NHS, but the way they do things and the way it's structured it's a shame! My friend lost his mother at only 3 years old + his sister who was barely 1! Why? Because the doctors just said to her, oh just go home and everything will be fine! Fine? Fine you say?! Well clearly not! She was in excruciating pain and died, simply because the doctors were too greed to run tests, simply because they thought it wasn't worth it/or necessary. For all the people that said something against you dear: So go on delete my comment if you think it's "offensive" or just don't want other people see what is really going on. I just say to you, that I hope you never go through this because clearly you don't know what's like loosing a family member and friend simply because the doctors didn't care. Even the doctors in my country say that, that the NHS (the way it's structured) is not the best health care system. And I experienced that myself. Thank you. And if you yet didn't have this problem with the NHS I'm glad! Kudos to you, but I know what these people are going through and suffer each day so stop denying it people and open your eyes for once! I'm studying currently to be in the health department but as soon as I get my degree, I'm not going to work on this corrupt system (excuse my saying) or if I am I'm going to change it, and that I promise you, so people don't have to suffer so long and eventually become so debilitated that they just die. Let's stop this for once! Thank you.

Thank you,for not being afraid and say what you believe in! I had problems wth anxiety for over a year each time I go to the doctor I am dismissed and nothing is ever done the doctor makes stupid faces and thinks I exaggerate they don't say it but look at me that way. I am someone who finds some day to day activities sometimes hard I have been admited to see a psychologist, after so long but in like 3-4 months. Someone can't wait that long, I would like them to try to live with anxiety that long, and struggle to cope. When I had an ear infection I saw 2 doctors in UK and was given some ear drops with vinegar. 1 month later ear infection did not go away. I went to my own country I was given medication within 1 week it went away.. Thank you Camilla for agreeing with me.

My mum had very dangerous temperatureand throat infection, she waited for hours in the e&a. Finally after hours she was seen by a nurse, she said I have throat infection he asked how do you know?Well the body gives pain, so you know that something is wrong. Someone is such a state should be seen straight away and not people who go to e&a for reasons that do not need quick action. But when you have dangerous temperature and severe infection you do.
